This was my first time playing this course, I have played Lakemont before. This course is by far more difficult then the Lakemont course. A lot of blind spots on some of the first 9 holes, narrow fairways, but easy to locate if you land in the woods. The greens were a bit beat up, a lot of ball marks left untouched from previous players. But definitely a good course to try and straighten out your drives off the box. Water doesnt come into play that much on this course, but it does have its traps here and there. Would definitely recommend this course to all skill levels. And as always the service there was excellent.

I hope my review can help someone with higher handicaps like me.

I played at the course on July 11 (Sunday). I have only been to Stone Mountain - Lakeside. Lakeside has, of course, more water hazards, and it seems like more scenic than stonemont.

However, stonemont lies were challenging than lakeside. The #1 hole was set to be the hardest hole, and the lies were very hard to hit the accurate shot for the beginners like me. Some other holes were longer for par 4 to hit the ball on the green in the second shot. Fairway was running fast, but the green was very slow compared to other courses.

The good thing about the course is that there are not many thick trees around the fairways. It is very easy to find the ball if you hook or slide. The bad thing is that you may lose your way, since stonemont and lakeside are all tangled together.

In conclusion, I recommend this course. We had the parking permit so the price of $40 (from LMTT) per person was reasonable for Sunday early afternoon.

Played on 6/27 while visiting a friend in Atlanta.
I had never been to Stone Mountain, GA so the scenery was 2nd to none. Some of the views were amazing especially the last par 3 on the back, with Stone Mountain in the background, awesome.
Service was on par with some of the high end courses I have played in the Pinehurst, NC area. The folks in the clubhouse were very nice and the restaurant/club house was awesome, they have everything you need.
The conditions of the course were OK. The greens were slow and you weren't penalized too much for hitting from the rough.
The Course layout left a lot to be desired. Its pretty much a up and down course, fairways running parallel back and forth. They throw in a couple of doglegs for good measure but there wasnt much to this course. Only a few holes had a forced carry. #9 is a terrible hole because even with a good drive you still have a downhill lie to a elevated green surrounded by bunkers. Very frustrating hole.
Value is really good. I think we paid $40 for a Sunday afternoon, which is good anyplace you play, and I wouldnt mind paying that again.
The driving range is terrible. For some crazy reason they had us hit off these terrible synthetic mats. I hurt my wrists a few times because they dont really give much. Though the attendant was extremely, extremely nice at the driving range. He was terrific.
My one big gripe is that we had a group in front of us that were extremely rude (yelling at cart girl, not letting us play through, taking too much time between each shot) and the twosome behind us hit into us 3 times. I tried explaining to them what the deal was but both groups were asian and didnt respond well to my comments.
If I were back in GA to golf again I would like to try the Lake course but would be glad to play Stonemont again.

Played June 24th. Course in very nice shape. Tight fairways and fairly high rough made it very challenging (they were preparing for an LPGA event). Bunkers do need some work, but otherwise in great shape, and an incredible deal considering the cost and the location.

Could very well be the best public golf course in Georgia right now, especially considering the price and the conditions of the fairways, greens and collars around the greens. The only negative is the sand traps. They need a more sand in them and need to be made more consistent.

Played here 6/6. Course is in good condition and tee-to-green plays fair. Greens a little rough; agree with earlier comment about golfers not fixing their ball marks. Good amenities; saw the cart girl frequently and there is a snack bar in the middle of the course. Biggest complaint is the slow play. I realize this was a Saturday afternoon, but the pace of play was slow torture. 5 hours plus. Don't the marshals have clocks? Saw two guys playing out of one bag, etc. Won't come back here, at least on the weekend.

Golfing at Stone Mountain is a good option. They offer two distinct 18 hole golf courses that are in great shape. I played Stonemont in the afternoon on 5/31/09. I was punished with a 5 hour round for that late start because the golf course was crowded with the leisure golfers. Still the course was in great shape, the greens were a little inconsistent from hole to hole but that was probably due to the guys watering some of them during my late afternoon round (It was hot). If you frequent the golf course go ahead and buy the annual parking pass, it will eliminate the addition $8 to enter the park and pay for itself within a few visits. You should also play both courses, they offer a totally different experience and you may want to play them a few times over to really appreciate them both and learn how to score on them. I don't have a preference because I like them both, however Lakemont's front 9 has more scenery and Stonemont is more of a test of your skill. But see it for yourself, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Lastly, they have reduced their rates recently so it's definitely more affordable to play these nice courses for a while at least.

Played 5-16-09. First time here. Only complaint was the back and fourth par fours. Holes did not have many features. I like the Lakemont course better than this one, but the course was in real good shape. I wish golfers got in the park for free too instead of paying the extra 8 dollars.
Lastly, I just don't get how a golfer can make a huge divot on the greens and not fix it. I fixed two or three fresh deep divots per hole.

Played here for the first time Friday April 24. Friday rates are same as Weekend rates, which pulls down the dollar value somewhat. Love the layout and beauty of this course. It rained hard the night before so the blue tees at nearly 6500 yards played long. The front nine is somewhat tight in places where small streams run down one or both sides of the fairway. Greens were average speed but true, and there was some slight mix of a weed coming into some of the greens. Sand in the bunkers was somewhat thin. Biggest issue was the round took a full 6 hours to play, on a Friday! They had booked a shotgun tournament, then had 80 people show up instead of 60, then on top of that they were giving tee times to people. To their credit, they did give us rain checks after we completed our round, which speaks well of their Customer Service attitude. I will keep coming back to Stone Mountain - both courses are a great challenge, lots of fun, and beautiful.

Not much difference between rough and fairways, hard this time of year though. Greens were really starting to look great, starting to speed up. Some tee boxes were in bad shape. Everyone was very friendly from the golf shop to the starters. I'm sure the course is very nice once it warms up a little more and more can be done to it. I think the regular rate was $73 and I paid $48.

Played on Thursday 4/9/09 and had a great time. With all the rain we have been having the course was in pretty good shape for early spring. Fairways were a little wet and the greens were a little slow but this was to be expected. It is still one of my favorite layouts in the metro Atlanta. From the Blue tees it is a true test for long hitters.

I want to first state that I live in Michigan so when I came down to Atlanta and played Stonemont on my way to Augusta I was pretty excited. I had not swung a club since November. I was told that the area had been getting pounded with rain. As for the course, driving up to the bag drop I was impressed. Got into my cart went to the first tee and then things went south from there. The layout is ok, greens are in good condition but inconsistent, fairways and rough, well to be honest I could not tell the difference. I figured if I hit the ball straight it was in the fairway. Had to play "winter rules" as things were a mess out there. Slow play caused us to play only 15 holes as we waited on every shot. The rangers were out there but never got control. I was able to get a rate of $52 on LMG and did not get my moneys worth.

Played this course for the second round of the day right before they were supposed to aerate. Not terribly fond of the course layout, but that is more my personal opinion. Too many dead straight holes. Another complaint is the wait at this course. I have never played at Stone Mountain and not had terrible waits. And we played during the week, so slow play should not have been an issue. Other than that, the course was in ok condition. Greens were ok prior to aeration, which doesn't mean much now. We only paid $25, so for the price, I can't complain too much.

Played Stonemont Saturday, 2/21 on a great deal from LMTT. I have a warm spot in my heart for this layout because I played here all the time in the early 1980s when I moved back to Atlanta. This is a great layout but you must drive the ball well to score. Greens are in good condition. Traps were well-maintained and playable. The concrete cart paths are a real improvement. Very helpful starter, clubhouse and range staffers. Beverage cart came by several times. I only counted the condition down because we are in the winter dormant phase of the bermuda grass fairways/rough. Tee boxes are a little bare. A very nice gesture was trading the entrance fee receipt for either a bucket of range balls or a course yardage book. Enjoyed the round in about 4.5 hours. I'll be back.

They have replaced all cartp aths and cleaned up the course. It is always challanging. Great value form last minute golfer. I prefer the lakemont side , if you have not tried this one it is like throwing darts. Kep it in the fairway and play to 150 markers.

Got the chance to make it out to Stonemont for the first time in about a year. I always loved the layout on this course and for the most part the place was in good condition. My only problem was the tee boxes were pretty torn up with not much grass, but the greens were great and rolling pretty true. Got on for 30 bucks so the value was awesome. The course is definitely long with most of the par 4s being 420-450 yds. from the tips. Started off great but the back 9 owned me. Worth checking out.

Played here on Sat.1/31/09.Last time I played here was 4/26/03. So it's been awhile but the results were the same. I shot the exact same 3-digit embarrassing score. I guess that's why it took me so long to come back here! The course is in descent winter shape. The layout is kind of back and forth. The greens are very undulating, with a few tiers and slopes. Our group was having trouble reading them, and the tough pin placements(some on the crown of the slope)didn't help.A friendly staff that was offering good deals on merchandise purchased after your round.A cart girl(with a sense of humor)and good sandwiches, saw her 3 times during the round. The helpful and attentive outside attendants, all made for an enjoyable round. Excellent staff!! Their service over shadowed my poor play and I can't wait to play Lakemont when it opens.

I played Stonemont on Dec 31.
Greens are in good shape.
Course is in good condition.
And the layout is good. The views from some of the tee boxes are spectacular. (I love golf courses like Stonemont that have no homes on them, and you feel like you have the course to yourself.)
My friend and I used LMTT and got to play here for $22 each and that was with a cart!
At those prices you can't afford to not play here!
So, wait for a day when it's going to be warm enough, and pounce on the $22 greens fees. You will be pleased.

Had not played Stn. Mtn. in 15-20 years and was really looking forward to it. This is truly a good layout and an old gem. Its too bad they don't have the money to make this course PGA strong. The layout is good, the greens were ok and the tees were good. This could be an amasing place to play golf. I will definitely be back...just going to wit til April. Had a good time and look forward to the springtime.

Played Stonemont this past Friday. Course was in great shape. The putting/chipping practice area next to the first tee was a great way for final warm ups.

Greens on the course were very fast early then slowed down considerably after lunch. Overall the course was in great shape.

Only complaint was the driving range. The grass practice area was closed and there was no good way to practice with the driver. A few folks teed up in front of the mats, but it was uneven and not a good setup for practice. Their mats was soft and I was able to get decent iron shots from them.

I'll plan on playing this course again soon.

When the starter told us how difficult the course was I did not take him serious. I thought wrong. The course was in great shape and the greens are extremely FAST!!!! The starter was also right when he told us that no matter what you saw, the greens always break towards the mountain. I definately enjoyed the course but the greens were very frustrating.
