What's this?
Played here on Thursday the 23rd. First off my LMTT rate of $27 was a bargin for almost anywhere in the Atlanta area. The inside staff was friendly as was the starter/marshall. I have heard that this course is under Chaper 11 and I believe it. As another reviewer pointed out, some of the Zoyzia in the fairways appears to be burnt giving it that winter dormant look. Most of the bunkers had little sand and though I love the speed of the greens (pretty fast) I am dismayed to see all the unrepaired ball marks. Unfortunally lower greens fees seem to bring out golfers that have little respect for the course or other golfers. A twosome behind us hit into us twice though we were also a twosome being slightly held up by a group in front of us. I can only hope that this fine layout survives.

Played 7/18 Saturday

T boxes were well maintained with divots primarily filled. Never had a problem with the fairways quality, and on several holes (where i took particular notice 1, 8, 9, 10 and 17) were outstanding.

Practically this is due to not allowing carts on these holes. Unfortunately, as is my way, i was as far away from the cart path on these holes as humanly possible - so i had ample opportunity to walk the fairways.

Some sand bunkers were horrible, no more than dirt, in serious need of sand. Others were acceptable.

Greens are among the most difficult to read in the area and difficult pin placement made it a fun experience (Felt like half my shots were putts0. However, greens weren't in great shape overall.

Pace of play was horrendous - we were a twosome following two foursomes. 5:15 to finish (didn't stop at the turn). Never were asked to play through, never saw a marshall on the course to ask for assistance.

Also, when we checked in we found that we had booked the standard weekend rate on LMTT. So, we payed an extra couple bucks per person for no reason. First time I've payed above rate booking LMTT. I checked early on, but stopped as i was always saving money. I'll be comparing standard course rates to LMTT rates for a while.

We played Sunday, 7.19. This has always been one of our favorites but haven't played in awhile. Truly disappointing. Fairways are diseased or burnt out which is hard to understand with Zoyzia. Trash cans were overflowing and garbage was on the ground. Greens aren't bad but literally covered in ball marks and fungus areas, but the worst part was the bunkers, totally unkept. Some looked like they had not been raked in many days, with underlayment coming through and many mounds and depressions.

The staff and service were great and not a bad value during the week but not for $49 on the weekend. We won't be back until things improve.

Played the course today 7/16/09.

Course condition was very nice, you can tell proper maintenance and upkeep is a high priority. Ball marks are almost non existent out there and the greens were cushy, but quick.

Great course. Not long from the tips, not extremely tough...but a great course. You will need your A game to shoot your handicap, a bad day can snowball on this course.

I scored a red flag deal, played a 4 some at 3:45....never had issues with pace, actually didn't see too many people out there. However, you do NOT want to walk this course. There is quite a bit of cart path between holes.

Water on the course, full and cold...couple of bathrooms. Nice place.

Not sure if the bartender knew tips were voluntary.

I would play this course anytime, any day. I would gladly pay the normal $45 if weren't for LMTT.

This is a very tough course but it is in great shape. From tee to green the course was near perfection. #'s 1, 16, and 18 are all cart path only and you can see why. The greens were extremely fast and rolling true. The service was okay but the strong points are the course. You will not find a course in better condition for the money! Once again, this is a very tough course and can be discouraging at times!

Played this course on 6-30, great course. This was much tougher than most other courses I play. Definitely a challenge to any golfer. Up and down fairways and greens. Overall the course was in good shape for the middle of a hot summer in GA. Playing this course often would probably help to know what 2nd and 3rd shots you have. If you want a challenge and a great price, this is the course for you.

I played this course today for the first time in many years. When I last played here it was shortly after the course opened, and I returned today in hopes of seeing once again one of what was the finest courses in the metro Atlanta area. In some ways that wonderful course is still there. The layout still remains a true test that will challenge even the most skilled golfer, yet from the forward tees offer and enjoyable round to the beginner. I found the fairways in good shape, a few of the tee boxes are very thin and rock hard. The greens were in good shape, rolling true with good pace given the 98 degree temperatures today. One of my big disappointments was with the sand traps, yes many of those closer to the clubhouse are filled with soft, white beach sand, however those that are, are overfilled and have turned what once was a deep greenside bunker into more of a “kids sandbox”, they had not been raked, and the sand was so deep that upon stepping into them you sank up over the top of your shoes. The remaining traps on the course are in terrible shape, many have what appears to be rocks and gravel and very little sand. In many cases what appears to be the cloth liner to the bottom of the traps are visible with less than ¼ inch of sand. Many were not raked and looked more like waste bunkers, rather than greenside or fairway bunkers.
The entire staff is holding it together with good service, a good price and of course a smile. We saw the cart girl several times on both the front and back nine holes and she was excellent, cold drinks, ice and a smile that helped beat back the heat. The pro shop was well stocked, staffed and was excellent.
Having lived in the Metro Atlanta for over 24 years and knowing the reputation this course once had as a show place, I can only hope that it will soon regain more of the prestige and prowess that it once commanded and deserving of an Arnold Palmer design. For now I would recommend you play the course with an understanding that this once “Great Layout” like so many has fallen on hard times and in serious need of TLC, and I can only hope that that help arrives soon, before it fades away.

I played here on Saturday, June 6th. The layout at this course is just plain awesome! I can remember the early days when the original owner was standing next to me as we overlooked the very scenic hole #1. It's just a pretty hole to start with and all of the others just fit right nicely into the puzzle. This course is simply one of my many favorite courses to play. Even though the wind can also add to the teeth on this course.

However, it is because that it is one of my favorites that it pains me to see such a wonderful layout show any signs of going down in quality. I noticed some troubled areas in some of the fairways. I'm not sure if this is due to some kind of disease or lack of watering. But I thought that Zosia grasses were almost drought proof.

There were some weeds on some of the fairways. But not as bad as some other courses that I've played. So I can't be overly critical. Especially, since I've just returned from playing The PGA National in West Palm Beach, Florida. And even they had a few weeds, too! $$$

The sandtraps were in good shape. And they have that fluffy soft bleached white sand. So be careful if you go in there. You just might still be in there for your next shot!

So overall, I strongly advise anyone to go out to play this course because it is a good value, good test of golf skills, and the layout is just too darn good to pass up.

Note: The original ownership had this course well manicured like as if you were at Disney or Augusta National. The new owners do not have the right staff to keep this course up as it used to be maintained. This isn't all bad. Because now the new owners have to reduce the price to play here as a result of not doing first class maintenence. The original owners could command $65 or $75. The current owners can only fetch $35 or $45 per round. And I paid $35 on a Saturday to play! You just can't beat that unless you play during the week for $27. If this course was on the North end of town it would command top dollar with ease.

So treat yourself to a real tough golf course that will test every aspect of your game. Don't worry the greens roll true. Not fast but true. And you should be thankful that they've slowed them down a little because I can remember back in the day when putting on those greens were like putting on speedy tour level greens.

The cart girl made multiple rounds and yes! She was in high demand because it was hot out there.

Was really lucky to have found this golf course, in town on a business trip, and used Forelinksters.com, which helps you find only the best golf courses in certain area. Great design, well conditioned, fair rates, and good pace of play. In addition to a good set of club rentals and a nice day, what else do you need. Cherokee Run review at Forelinksters

Broke into the 80s for the first time on this very challenging track. A few of the tee boxes and traps need some work, but they are not the worse in the world. Purchased a single tee time, but they placed me with three others. Not a problem today, because we all played from the blues and we tee'd off 20 minutes ahead of time. One guy shot a 79, what a thing of beauty to watch. The fairways were exceptional, the greens rolled true and the price was right. This is the course I use to test my skills and I know I must be getting better, because that place is not getting any easier.

Played for the first time Sunday May 31 and loved the course layout. Elevation changes were present on most of the holes making for a challenging and visually pleasing design. Fairways and greens were in pretty good condition. Only complaint was the 50 person Golf Channel tournament that teed off before us. Would have been nice to know as it took us 6 hrs to play 18!

$ 39 to play C-Run on the weekend, a great deal. Zoysia fairways in good shape and results in the ball sitting up nicely. Greens in great shape. Layout will test your game. Holes 15 - 18 a tough finish.

5/30/2009 -- Haven't played the course in a couple of years. Tee boxes, fairways, and green are in very nice shape.

Wish they had warned us about the Golf Channel Am event that was going on and the ensuing 6 hour round of golf to follow. We first group behind last AM group, watched a guy take 7 strokes in the pot hole bunker on a par 3. Ready golf seemed to be a foreign concept -- in the entire 6 hours, never saw a marshall trying to speed up play.

Will play there again but I am put off by not seeing management more proactive on pace of play. We got a nice deal on green fees but I would have selected another course had I know about the GC event.

From tee to the hole the course looks and plays fantastic.

Today, May 28th, whoever was placing the greens this morning must have been pissed off because just about every pin was back and sitting on a slope. :D

I'm not very happy with the practice sand bunker. It's not a big deal, but for those who want a good one...

The fairways are incredibly nice right now.

I always look forward to playing Cherokee Run. Today, they did not let me down.

Cherokee Run is a beautiful and challenging layout. The greens are in great shape. The bunkers need more consistent care, raked daily every morning, but overall for under $30 twilight on an Arnold Palmer course, you can't stay away from this course. I would recommend the course for good players, and warn high handicapers to play the easiest tees they can stand too. Don't play the blues. You are not ready. The blacks are for tournament, scratch golfers.

Played course on 5/25 for the first time since 2001. Not much has changed in 8 years. Outstanding value for $35. Bunkers were in poor shape and much of that is probably due to all the rain and unable to work on them. Greens were rolling true and in very good condition. Tee boxes are coming in and fairways/rough were in good shape for this time of the year and will get even better as the weather warms.

Played last Thursday 5/7. With all the rain, the course was really nice and green. There were a few places where they have some drainage issues though. The biggest issue I had was that the greens were running a little too slow. Once they get them cut down, the course will be rockin'. Staff was nice and the course was uncrowded, so we moved at a good pace.

I don't know what that previos guy was talking about but this course is in EXCELLENT condition. Other than a few spots in the rough that need to be cut down and a few ant hills near the cart path that could be taken care of, that is all I could even find to complain about.

Greens are perfect! Roll true and are in great shape. Fairways are nice and plush. Tee Boxes need to be mowed but other than that it is an enjoyable place to play. Play it from the tips and it is a DIFFICULT golf course. Some holes are a little goofy in layout but get past those with a par and enjoy the other 16 holes.

I would highly recommend for $30.00 and $27.00 for seniors. BEST DEAL ON LMTT!

The course is in horrible condition. Putting green has a disease and is starting to take over other green on the front. Gravel in the bunkers on the back instead of sand. The owner which bankrupt the course is running it in the ground faster than expected. Truly disappointing condition for a course of this caliber.
