Played 7/19 first time since new cart paths and some updates to the course, which are very nice. Greens were VERY SLOW, but in good shape except #4 which was mostly bare. Pace of play remains a major problem, just shy of 5 hours saw a ranger once. Play Stonemont, but not on the weekends unless you are first off. Cheers.

Played on Saturday, July 18. No complaints about layout or course condition really. Can remember 2-3 greens as being beat up, fairways fine. Range mats need replacement, essentially a thin layer over concrete. Being Sat., I expected longer round but not 5 hr slog that our foursome had. Assumed the person we saw riding around the course was the Ranger. Not a bit of time mgmt on his part. This course has a bit of water, so more balls lost. Therefore, to keep pace of play, Ranger should enforce drop zone, or no fishing balls out of H2O, or multiple balls from tees. Lower price probably attracts higher handicappers. That's fine, but pace should be monitored to make round experience enjoyable for all. Par 3s are especially challenging, with 4 of 5 at 200 yds or over. That also slowed down play I'm sure. Good value for mid-$40s. Stonemount course is tougher, but Lakemont is challenging too.

I played this course last Saturday (7/11/09). Good service to start; remember that you have to pay $10 to get into the park (bring your parking ticket to the clubhouse, you'll get a bucket of driving range balls). I'm relatively new to golf, but have played several times over the last 1 1/2 years. The course layout was good, and the condition was pretty good. The course was packed, which I expected, but we felt rushed on every shot even though we had to wait on the next hole. The greens were pretty beat up, but for the value, I can understand. This course has a lot of water, as the name suggests. We finally saw the beverage cart on hole 9, and saw it again on another hole (stock up when you see them). Overall the course was nice, and had beautiful scenery with a lake and Stone Mountain in the backdrop; friendly service. This is a good course for the value, and is less difficult than the Stonemont course. I'll play there again, maybe on a weekday next time.
great experince.. lake mount is a little overplayed so stone mount is the way to go..great deal.. i took my dad here for fathers day and since im a junior i was free.. so $42 for both of us at a nice public course.. the only thing from stopping me from going their a lot is that its 30 min. away from my house.. will return soon when i have time to drive up their. P.S if you are going, think about staying the night.. good discount their too and while you play golf your family can have fun at the mountain and its attractions.

Played the course on June 28th. Lakemount was in tough shape. Fairways and tee boxes were ok. Could have been better. Lot's of brown in the fairways. They rolled fast, probably faster than the greens.
The greens were spotty. Lots of bare spots. Not your typical lush greens. They rolled very slow.
Course played slow. About 5 hours in the mid-afternoon. I've never understood why courses don't do a better job of managing pace of play.
Always a great course to play with the scenery, I hope they get the course back into shape.
Played on June 24th 2009 the course was very peaceful with very scenic views of Stone Mountain. The fairways were muddy in some spots I assumed it was from wartering the fairways earlier that morning but was well kept and playable. The greens on some holes were worse than others but overall they were okay and ran somewhat slow for my preference. The clubhouse was well kept and the attendants were very courteous they even gave me a free yardage book upon check-in. I would play this course again in the future.

Played @ 1 pm. on Sunday, 06/14 and finished in less than 4 hours. Surprised there wasn't more golfers. # 1 an imposing start for most, par 5, remember to play your 2nd shot longer and more left than it looks for best view/angle of green. Need to be a straight driver here although back nine opens up a bit. Three par 3s on the front, # 2 is long (tees were up - 200 yds) and has a huge green but at least it is downhill. # 6 used to be stupid par 4 now it's a hard as hell par 3 around 220 yards. Fairways are looking good, except 18 which is extremely bumpy. Greens were on the slow side but true. # 4 green in poor condition, too much shade most likely.

Played on June 1 and I think the course is in very good shape. I've never played here on a weekend, all my rounds have been red flag times during the week and if you can get away to play a weekday round, I can think of no better place. The prices are great, the park is pretty quiet and the rounds are usually very quick paced.
This was also my first time back since they re-did the cartpaths and to me, this upgrade made a huge difference. After playing 18 driving on those old jarring paths, I always felt like I'd been beaten up. It seems like a small side thing, but these new, smoother paths really made for a more enjoyable round for me (It also helped that I brought my A game for a change and played pretty well, I guess). In addition, the carts were very nice, comfortable and peppy.
Anyway, The course itself is beautiful. Not as tough (unfair, penal, call it what you will) as Stonemont, plus much more scenic. It's a thinking golfer's course that rewards good course management. The short par 4 over water at the quarry may be my favorite whole I've ever played anywhere. It's unusual ( I hit 8 iron off the tee) and beautiful.
The greens were very receptive. Yes, a tiny bit slow, but that's not a major issue for me as long as they roll true, which these did all day.
By the way, They have a GREAT membership deal right now, according to a sign posted on the cart. No initiation and $215 a month gets you both courses and unlimited used of the practice areas, plus other stuff. If I was not so happy at my current club, I'd take advantage of that deal in a heartbeat.

I played on a beautiful sunny day at the end of May 2009. The layout with the water made for a challenging course. Spectacular views and just a great layout. The only drawback for me were the greens. A little bit like putting on a carpet, then again I like them a to be a bit fast. Great holes especially the shorter par fours, you can go for it but risk vs reward. A good thinking golfers course. Good management on this course equals a good score. Will play again and can't wait to play the other 18 at Stonemont.

First time a played this course was in early may, and despite its downside (some rough patches) I can't wait to go back. What a pretty course. Not the most difficult course, but certainly a challenge and fair. If you have out of town guests, this is a great place to play. Fifty bucks, great views of the mountain and lake, and great golf. Fairways were generally in good shape, but some very rough patches as well. It all depended on the hole.
One downside is that playing inside Stone Mountain park is a bit like playing at an amusement park. You can hear the tour guide from the river boat, people cheering, music (from the amusement park?) The course is still worth the money and a ton of fun, but don't expect a quite round - no matter when you play.

I'm a sucker for the views of the mountain and lake on this course. At least once you get past that opening tee shot that is a carry over water but you can't use driver because the shape of the hole.
It's a beautiful course with a nice clubhouse and friendly helpers. It's always a bit of a pain that the range and chipping are so far away, but I always get over that minor inconvenience.

Played 18 on April 23. Considering the amount of rain lately, this course drains better than most and I found most of tees in fine shape and the fairways and greens were in excellent shape. A few months ago they re-did all the cart paths so it is a smooth ride and great improvement, and pretty sure that we had a nearly brand new cart (no GPS but otherwise very nice). Saw the cartgirl 3 times in round. Pace was good and starter was friendly. A few yahoos behind us hit into us twice (once hit our cart fortuntely no one in it) but that stuff happens everywhere. I play this course many times a year and it is greening up real nice after 2+ years of drought the recovery is obvious and the grounds crew has it in fine shape.
Played this course on 5/17/2009. The course is in great condition, the weather was horrible on this day, a lot of rain. The layout on this course is quite difficult actually. A lot of blind shots. The fairways are lined with a lot of trees, but not all that hard to find your ball if you smash one over into them. Water comes into play a lot. The par 5's are very long, so you get a lot of times to grab the driver and grip and rip them. But you also have some really good par 3's to use the long irons. The greens are in great condition. The played really slow due to all the water on them, but still a great course to play, rain or shine. The staff was great and the amentities in the clubhouse were far from scarce. Will definitely be back to play this course and hopefully get to play the sister course, Stonemont.

I disagree with some of the statements of the previous post about this course. I played Lakemont on 5/9 with a friend and found the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in good to very-good condition. One negatives is the greens are too slow. They are among the slowest I've played on in ATL. The course has some scenic holes and good variety in the layout. Pace of play is average for a public course. One oddity is that the 10th tee box is a very long way from the 9th green.
I agree that the "small" practice facility needs better matts and an decent area where you can hit from the grass. If I was going to do-over the practice area, I'd make it a double decker setup with matts on the upper level and grass on the lower level.
If you add in the park entrance fee (assuming you don't have an annual pass) it is a little expensive. You do get a free bucket of range balls with your park entrance pass. Maybe they should also include a free hot-dog or cold drink too.

This course is not worth anywhere close to the $70 I payed. The greens are in nice shape, but that's about it. The tee boxes are completely ripped up, the fairways are in poor shape, and the areas around the greens need a lot of work. In addition, the practice range is just awful -- no grass to hit off of, and terrible artificial turf. There has been a lot of rain lately, but in my opinion, that has little to do with the rough conditions -- it's just poor maintainance. It's too bad too, because the front nince is very scenic, and has an interesting layout. For anybody looking to play a really nice course for $60-$70 on the weekend, stay away from this place and go to Crystal Lake! This course is worth $30 - $40, but not $70!

Played Lakemont for the first time this year today 4/26/09. The course is clean and nice as usually. The place is beginning to green up nicely. The best part of Lakemont is the front 9; very scenic holes in view of the granite and the lake. The back plays a little easier, not as scenic but still nice. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

Played 4-22 on a LMTT Weekday pass, thanks LMTT for drawing me in the refer a friend give a way. First time playing the lakemont course (played stonemont several times) Buy the yardage book, there is a lot of local knowledge with this tricky layout. The front nine by the lake is really gorgeous. The back has a lot on elevation change and is incredibility tight. I found the fairways to be acceptable for this time of year. To me the tee boxes are a little bare. And I found the greens to be slower that i generally like.
The golf staff is always friendly and loved having two beverage carts on the course on a Wednesday. One small compliant about the maintenance staff. You don't have to cut the engine on your tractor but at least stop and idol down while I'm standing over my ball and you are twenty feet away. Buzzing by me and then backing up to get the spot you missed is annoying.
Overall this is a tough track. Enjoyed the scenery and look forward to going back now that I have an clue about a few of these holes.

The front nine is very scienic and challaging. If you cannot drive the ball straight you are in for a long day. The back nine is very much a risk reward nine holes. Hole number 11 is a favorite. Par 4 (275ish) can be reached by long hitters. Take the short cut over the lake and rock quarry and you can reach the green. Great chance for Eagle/Birdie. #18 is a nice finishing hole. Par 5 and only reachable in 2 for the longest hitters. Play smart and hit 3 shots and get a birdie to finish the day.

Played here Sunday March 21 for the first time ever. Perfect weather day. Lakemont course is one of the most beautiful and difficult courses I have ever played. If you cannot hit a driver or fairway wood 225 to 275 yards into a 20 yard wide landing area, you do not want to play this course. The good news is, if you miss on the correct side of the fairway, you can usually find your ball in the pine straw and chip it out for a one stroke loss. The par 3's are long, one of them was 227 yards to the pin from the blue tees. I was happy to hit a 4 wood short of the green, wedge on, and 2 putt for a bogey. The staff is very good, very friendly, and the setting is awesome. I imagine each time you play this course, it gets a little easier. But if you are looking to lower your handicap index, this is not the place for you. Course conditions were good for this time of year. Tee boxes excellent, fairways good, greens were true but very slow.

Played this past weekend, rather busy day, but good day of golf..
Greens were punched, but I knew this going in, they were in decent shape considering the maintenance. Staff was nice, cart girls were seen often. Didn't like the lack of water coolers, or fountains, forcing you to buy from the course only. Back nine is a long drive, spaced out, and still under construction on the cart paths.
Marshals didn't do anything, pace of play was terrible! Groups bunched up, people behind hit into groups in fairways on every single blind drive.
Overall, scenic course, good condition, was a fun round. Just needs better course management from the players and the marshals.
Would play again, but not at any standard rate.

While it is a little pricey for someone of my handicap, I'll never turn down a round of golf here. I love the course, the layout, the scenery, and just about everything else about playing at Stone Mountain. It's always in great shape but can become a little crowded on the weekends, but well worth it.
I played this course with a couple of buddies over labor day weekend. I was a little disappointed when I first got there since they raised the price just to get into Stone Mountain and then to play the course as well. Once we started playing though the course was in great condition. This was the 2nd time I played the course and it still amazed me how scenic the course is. As others have mentioned, the course is definately challenging. The fairways are tight, with long par 3s and plenty of water to come into play. Knowing the course will drastically improve your score. Also, as others have mentioned, the cart paths need a lot of work. We did have 1 unfortunate problem. We actually got caught behind an extremely rude twosome that were horrible golfers and refused to let the 4 of us play through. It took us about 5 1/2 hours to get through the round. I happened to mention in to one of the employees when we finished the round and he asked us to wait a couple of minutes for him to come back. He went and talked to the manager about the problem and the manager came out and gave each of us a certificate for a free round of golf. I really thought that was a first rate thing to do, especially on a holiday weekend where play could have been slow for many reasons.

Played Lakemont on 7-27 and found the course to be in great condition. Front nine layout is quite scenic as it moves around the lake. Tee boxes were in great shape and the greens rolled true (and fast). The course can be a bit of a challange as it is narrow and the par 3's are long. Agree with the other reviewer, the cart paths need some work, they can rattle your teeth if your not carefull. Overall, highly recommended.
