I have played this course dozens of times, but I recently played it last week. The greens were the best part of the course and ran real true. I wish they would have kept the old 27 hole course.
Went on Sunday, June 7 as a twosome. Got off 15 minutes early and played in under 4 hours--fantastic for a beautiful Sunday. Tee boxes are in so so condition, but the fairways and greens were great. Tough hole positions on most holes, leaving for testy putts whether near or far. The surrounding are OK. Too bad they cleared land for more houses but now aren't building them. Overall, a GREAT VALUE!!

I played this course on May 21, 2009. The course was in good shape. The greens were slightly fast but well maintained as was the rest of the course. Clubhouse is nice and stocked nicely and also sports a full bar in the snack area. Small greens and difficult pin placements made accuracy a must with short irons but the fairways were pretty open and forgiving allowing you to hit driver on just about every hole if you desired. Only rant is some old man who either worked there or was a member constantly complaining about where we parked our cart. There were 2 holes that were cart path only and 2 that were 90 degree only which we followed. However, this guy didn't want any carts anywhere on his course unless it was the cartpath. Service and hospitality leaves a lot to be desired but the condition of the course is good and for the Red Flag Special price we paid, was worth it.

I played this course Friday May 22nd. First sign of good customer service came when I got lost on the way there due to poor mapquest directions. The associate at the clubhouse spent several minutes talking me in, making sure I made it. The clubhouse is very nice and was overall a little more than what I expected. Now for what you really want to know about, the course. The layout of the course was fun and challenging. A lot of risk reward holes which is not always good for me being that I most of the time take the risk without the reward. Also many holes with downhill slopes to the green which makes for longer drives than normal leaving me usually less than a 7 iron into greens on par 4's. The par 3's at this course are not boring either with a couple over water to the green. Only negative I can come up with at this course was that there was 2 or 3 greens with some small bare spots of which of course I had to put through twice. This course is a great value and I will return to play again. Hopefully I will find some better weather next time.

Course is in great shape, very difficult pin positions. Had a great time, play during the week for a fast 18.
Took son for his 11th birthday to play and we had a great time. Greens were in great shape and recieved the ball well. Still getting used to the layout as compared to the 27 holes. Very few golfers out for our 3:40 tee time. Pace was great, we played 18 and were home by 7:30.

Got an LMTT time so the value could not be beat on Friday 4/17/09. The course was a bit damp from all the rain, but the greens were in decent shape and generally rolled true. Staff is always friendly and the 19th hole is always terrific for cold libations. Unfortunatley, for whatever reason the pace of play was atrocious. It took 2 of us over 5 hours to get through 18 holes. I am wondering if the loss of the 3rd nine has anything to do with that? I'm not sure that marshalls could help the situation as it appeared to be thoroughly backed up throughout, but we didn't see any during our round. Hopefully this won't become a routine for the club.

Lake Spivey made changes last year that I am still trying to adjust to. To me the new layout is lacking something, but I could not tell you what that is exactly. I still play here often, because its close by, a value play and still a challenge. The back nine, normally kicks my butt, but I continue to return. Many of the areas off the fairway needs some work and they are planning on adding home along the course. There will be some housing construction on adjoining property, but that should only bother those unpaid pros out there. For the rest of us, this is a good play and BE SURE TO GET THE ANGUS BURGER before you leave.
Best Regards,
Tightsigma

I played Lake Spivey on Sunday 3/30 the morning after the course got 1-2 inches of rain on Saturday. I play this course a few times a year and played the tips (gold) on this occasion since I was playing with a couple of very low handicappers. From the tips, with the soaked fairways and gusting wind, this course is a bear. Since the remodel down to 18 holes I like the layout better overall. A few of the par 4s play VERY long from the back but still a fairly narrow course with lots of OB off the fairways. The greens on this day were the slowest I've ever seen them as the weather prevented cutting for a while. Because of the grain you had to slam the ball into the cup. (usually these greens are extremely fast and true). The overall course is in good shape for this time of year and the pace of play was excellent. The grill in the clubhouse is one of the best and Willy will really take care of you. Great food and low prices. Well stocked proshop from Edwin Watts. Overall this is one of the best bargins around, especially at LMTT prices.

I Played on 03/17/09 and the course was in Pretty good shape. There was a large rain storm the night before so there were a couple of wet areas, and the fairways and rough are still dormant, but the greens were in pretty good shape considering the ammount of play the course gets, not real fast but fair and true. I think the couse is a nice layout for every handicap, with middle to high handicappers really being put to the test. I found the clubhouse and staff to be nice and helpful. All told, I think Lake Spivy is one of the best values in Atlanta, especially when booked with the "Last Minute" or "Red Flag" tee times.

I played this course 11/28/08 Black Friday Golf. I would rather play golf than go to the stores. The change to the course are different, and since I have yet to break 100, it is a challenge to me. Since it was Black Friday, I guess the Marshall was at the mall, so the course was backed up. The greens run fast and can be tricky if you don't read them. The value was good, $39.00. The Pro shop is well stocked and they are ready to serve you.

Lake Spivey used to be one of my favorite courses in the Atlanta area, with the Lake Side 9 holes being the best of the three. Now that they have converted the course from 27 holes to 18 holes to make room for more houses, the course has lost some appeal. Still the remaining 18 holes are in good condition and the greens are good also, but I missed that 27 hole layout. The verdict is still out on how things will shape up when all the new construction is done. Still a nice course to play with plenty of challenges in the remaining 18 holes.

Played on 10/12; very windy. First time out since layout reconfigured to 18 holes. Biggest change, 2 par fives on the old layout are now 460 + yard par fours. Greens were nice; rolled well and very soft, hit and stop. Plenty of OB, prepare for a long day if you're wild off the tee. $ 39 for a Sunday morning a great deal.
First time out here and great value with weekday anytime pass and yards.Pro shop peeps were great also. Course layout is nice. 2 issues I had and yes I know its been dry but I didn't fix a ball mark all day because even from 160 yds out my ball bounced 3 feet in the air and 20 feet from hole. These greens were FIRM. Not as bad as Durham but firm. Last complaint. On 6 holes I had to play my ball from center of fairway by running to it fter sprinkler passed by. LOL. They were on on every hole and it was only 1:30 pm. I dont like giving neg course ratings but if you are looking to play here in a next week pray for some rain.

I played here on 7/27 and I was quite surprised at the progress that the course is making. It used to be an eyesore because they took out nine of the 27 holes to build homes on it.
I was so relieved to see that some construction has finally begun to take place.
The course was in some of the best condition that I have seen it in a while.
The clubhouse looked like it had gone through some extensive renovation. The Lake Spivey Grill has always been a favorite of mine and today was no exception.
The staff is always nice, and they now have an Edwin Watts retail shop on site.
This is a full service course, and it has everything. Once everything is complete, it will definitely be one of the premiere courses on the southside.
I really like playing here becuase if you have any sort of control on your shots, you can score well. Even when you drift of the fairway and spray an occasional shot, a tree usually works for you and kicks your ball back into play.
The greens here are very challeging with lots of slope. Putting was consistent on every green with no surprises. The fairways were in pretty good condition as well.
They have a memebership drive going right now where you can join for $99 and pay $65 a month in dues. This is a great deal for a course that offers so many ammenities.
I can tell that the course gets a lot of play, but I can also tell that it is very well maintained.
The price was great. Played Super twilight for $20 plus tax with cart. That is awesome for a weekend price. I will be back here again soon.

Played this course for first time about a week ago on a Friday morning. The best thing about this course is the price, good value. Overall quality of the course I'd put on par with Mystery Valley or Collins Hill. Fairways were decent suffering from drought a bit like most all courses in the area. Some members behind us told us the construction around the course is taking out 9 holes turning it into residential homes. The construction was an eyesore but didn't really impact play on the remaining 18 holes that much. Wish they provided sand on the cart to fill in divots, many unfilled divots in some fairways. Sandtraps were in great shape, greens nice. Checkin at clubhouse friendly, good pace of play (4 hrs).

I was very pleased with this golf course. I played it the first time a few weeks ago and had a nice round. Once the development and stuff gets finished on the backside it will really be a nice course. I really liked how this course forces every player to manage the course. There's a stretch starting out the back side that was KILLER! I hit irons off a couple tees.
It was a pleasure to play and I look forward to returning!

My group and I played Spivey on Memorial Day also. We played 43.25 on LMTT as a last minute rate. We had played the old 27 hole layout and were interested to see what holes were now defunct and what chnages were made. The new 18 hole layout is fine. My only concern was playing #11 - is a blind tee shot and it is very easy to hit into the group ahead over the hill - this needs some sort of bell to announce all clear. Greens were in great shape - soft after the recent rains and the pins were in tough positions - its not an easy course to putt on. But contrary to others - some tee boxes were hard as nails. Pace of play was fine and overall, its still an older style of golf course. There are some areas with resodding but we played that as GUR and it really didnt affect us too much.
Its worth a drive to see the new layout - just be careful of #11.
Enjoy

Played on May 24 for just 34 dollars with the Memorial Day Speacial they are running. Just to give an update since one hasn't been posted for this course for almost a month. You can really just read the two post before mines and you'll get a feel about the course. They have a practice facility for everything you would need before you tee it up therefore no excuses about your play because you could have worked on it before the first tee. The greens are in excellent shape. They are quick and true so trust your line and go with it. The fairways are thin on most of the fairways which is the only negative but they are still playable. The bunkers are in great shape because they really have sand in them unlike other courses. Most tee box were soft enought to put a tee in the ground so you can tee it up where you liked. The cart girl came around at least 6 times before we finish witch is plus. The marshall makes his way around making sure everything is ok with every group. The Staff in in the clubhouse and snack bar where nice. If you can get around or deal with the construction area (shouldn't affect your golf) this is a nice course for you. Not a long course but not that easy also. I would recommend it.
