Was part of weekend Muskoka golf tour (Sep 17-20) with the guys, Lake Joseph, Rocky Crest and The Rock and The Rock was the best of the bunch. The best and the most friendly service, best condition and fastest playing time. The only problem was the speed of the greens. The kid cleaning our clubs after the 18th said the stimpmeter was at 98 and that they had ramped up the speed for a tournament the week prior.
The Clublink members in our group agreed that this was the best value course they played, by far, in Muskoka.

I wholeheartedly agree with DW's review on August 1,2009. The value offered by this course and LMG are first rate. I would love to see other courses receive and conduct their business like the 'Rock' did today. Definitely need to play again to enjoy even more. A note of caution for couples, Women need to hit from tee and some forced carries of at least 100 yards(airborne). To see the greens keeper spreading ballmark repair mixture on the greens to eliminate the all too prevalent scars is tremendous. I guess the scars are left by those people who believe that great putting greens are someone else's responsibility, at the Rock it actually is!!!
played Jul29th. Course was a little soggy due to all the rain we have had. Decent rate with LMG. We were directed to the driving range prior to teeing off. They said they would call us when our tee time was ready. The range was complimentary. It was a 270yd driving range with about 10 stalls and numerous yardage pins. There was a yardage book in the cart for us. We teed off on time. Very pituresque holes which required emphasis on shot making as opposed to length. The greens were fast. Rangers were on the course to monitor rate of play. Two beer carts were roaming the course. We played the course in about 4hr 40min. Spent alot of time looking for balls. A worker was waiting by 18th green to wipe down your clubs as you putted. Great course, great amenities, great service, good LMG price. Everything you would want from a golf course
The Rock proved to be one of the most difficult 6600 yards I've ever played. It was a great overall experience that could have been enhanced with the use of GPS instrument on the golf cart. Otherwise quite a few forced carries especially from the back tees ad fast greens which I truly enjoy. It was a struggle to post an 89 so I must go back and try to improve my score now that I've finally played the Rock.
Played this course for the LMG event. Overall it is a beautiful course! I didn't really care too much for the bugs, but what do you expect when your in cottage country haha. Very dissapointed in the fact that they did not throw in a yardage book or GPS. For someone who had never played it before, it was very difficult to decide on club selection. A couple shots I would just swing and pray for the best. But the condition of the course was top-notch and I would definitely make the drive to play it again. Especially since this time I have an idea of what the course is like.
cheers!

I played this couse today and enjoyed the layout. This is not a bomb and gouge course. Well thought out shots are rewarded while poorly planned drives from the tee blocks are punished. Everybody in your foursome chip in and buy a yardage book. It helps alot. You can adjust the challenge easily with the tee block choice. Make sure you choose the tee block that lets you get there with an 80% swing. Also I cannot understand the comments about poor value. This couse 100km south is not $70 it's $170 with a $8k initiation.
Manificent course as always; greens were in fine form; entire course in wonderful shape. People working there were all nice and pleasant. Always have a great time playing at the Rock! :-)
I echo other LMGer's comment about missing some pieces for the last event at The Rock. Played it for 4th time but still believe a GPS or yardage book is need, especially for the $ this course is charging. Fairways and greens are in good shape although a bit slow while putting. Customer service went a bit downhill from previous years. I was disappointed to see no towels in the locker room after such a hot day on the course...

Played here on June 22nd on the LMG Event.Heard this was an upscale golf establishment, but when compared to other courses within the same price range, I was totally dissapointed.First, we arrived early(8.45am - 2 hrs drive)so we could have breakfast, nothing was available. There were no GPS on the carts OK,but they could at least given you a diagram on the score card of each hole layout, similar to the pin position chart.Instead they were selling yardage books, what a 'Class Outfit'.There were so many blind spots on most holes you became frustrated not knowing about them as a first timer, making club selection an after thought.

Played at the Rock on June 22nd.Three hour drive but I think it was worth it.The tournament was a lot of fun and I thought the course was in excellent shape. The greens were a little slower than the practice green but I thought they were very consistent. Tournament could have been run better as they told us there would be 2 longest drive holes and 2 closest to the pin but there was only 1 of each. I thoroughly enjoyed the golf course but I was lucky enough that I bought a yardage book in pro shop.It made a big difference.Lots of blind shots and it makes a big difference playing twice. We did that with a great price of $30. It would have been nice if the restaurant and bar were open but would definately go back for the same deal.
Played the LMG event at the Rock yesterday with my friends. I have played this course many times in the past. It turned out to be a very Hot day, lucky there was some spring water available at some of the holes. The greens were much slower, then in the past. I noticed my group was always short. The 6th green seemed to be faster, then the rest of them. The overall condition was good, but the greens could have been better though. After we were done playing our round, I was shock to hear that the resturant and patio wasn't open. Talk about what a change of service for this golf course. This was my #1 favorite place to play a round of golf and enjoy some real food. All they had was $6 burgers, sauages and $5 hotdogs to eat! Even in the bathroom, they used to have nice cloth towels, not anymore. I don't plan to visit this course again, unless I can get it at a Super Redflag rate!

Like a lot of lmg members our forsome were looking forward to the Rock, after 3 postponements expectations were mixed. This time left very disappointed not on the course as it was in great condition, level flat soft tees granted one tee position(green) has beeen removed, receptive soft fairways and greens that rolled true but slower then in past. Previous course knowledge beneficial as no yardage book included this year and like many did not bring. Purchased one for our foursome which helped on blind shots and when we needed to lay up. Service was very abrupt leaving feeling like we were imposing or shouldn't be there. No kitchen as in transition didn't help either. Promises it will be better after the up coming weekend did'nt make this day any better. The cart girl passed by without stopping when called very loudly 4 times during our round, perhaps pre occupied with music or earphone on. With seniors and a diabetic in our group the high humidity could have been more of a problem but fortunately we were prepared with water, fruit, energy bars. The later date for this event did though bring us great weather only dampened by the lower service level.

I was looking forward to playing here for the first time. I had heard many great things about the course. Unfortunately I had a few service issues that prevented this from being a five star experience from start to finish.
I have no qualms about the layout, condition or the overall value for the golf and golf alone. I played the LMG outing and the price today from LMG made it worthwhile. If I had paid full price I would have left the course more ticked off than I already was.
The course layout is a little difficult the first time around with several blind shots. Would have been nice if they had some kind of course guide in the cart. It might have saved me a few golf balls.(Maybe)(Probably not) Greens seemed to be in great condition but also seemed to be a lot slower than they looked. I dont know if I was the only one confused by the speed.
The service gets a pass only because of the last minute intercedence by the golf director. I initially complained to Ron the course marshal, tournament director, customer service guy ( I dont know what his title is) about a serious issue. Other than saying sorry it happened, did absolutely nothing to remedy the problem or offer any restitution. This may very well have been a one off problem and for that reason only I will not be more specific, in fairness to the course. If it should happen again, God forbid, I promise I will share every detail.
The cart girl only showed up twice during the entire round. On a hot and humid day I was hoping to see the drink cart a little more often.
The bbq tent cook needs to learn that hamburger needs to be fully cooked when served to customers.
I was disappointed that there was only one shower and no towels available when I wanted to clean up after the round. Its a long drive back when your all sweaty with two other guys. If your going to portray yourself as a premium course, then all the facilities should be properly stocked. Especially when the course is fully booked for a tournament.
I am going back to try again as the golf director has assured me my experience will be much different the next time around. I will certainly change my overall rating if that turns out to be the case.
Played the rock on June 13th. Course was in immaculate condition from tee to greens! However it was my first time playing and the track definately caters to people who ave played before, many blind shots and my number one suggestion would be to pay the $5 for the course yardage book. This will pay a huge role in you enjoying your round and make it easier to take in the wonderful scenery and wonderful design. Definately will play again ASAP, one last thing probably some of the greatest sand I have had the pleasure to play out of huge plus for me! thanks LMG wish I could have made the tournament!

From the moment you pull up..you are treated well. No pressure to hurry so you have chance to soak up the views. the course can play incredibly tough if you miss the fairway and just plain tough if you are in the short grass. Having deer watching you is a nice natural touch that make the whole experience a nice day. Pro shop is a little lacking though.
This is quite possibly my favourite course to play. In the fall, when the leaves turn it is the nicest course in Ontario! I played there before and after the course re-build. I actually liked the course before they removed a collection of bedrock. I only play there 2 times per year, so I can understand how those who play there frequently would prefer the less challenging version of the course.
Overall, I put this course above Copper Creek and Glen Abby. Best course around!

The service is 2nd to none, they treat every guest like a King or Queen when u play at the Rock! We were the 1st group out and we Enjoyed the round, even though we didn't play the best golf that day.lol The greens were lightning Fast like always, practice 1st! The new course changes are more player friendly and less blind shots now. OB's are easy to receive on this course, so Good course mangenment is a MUST! The fairways were in great shape, but some were be airgated though. All in All, if you can play this course for under $100, that would be a Great Deal for the Rock! If you played the original course and found it to Hard, come and see the difference now!

Played The Rock on Tuesday Aug 26th with the LMG Special and what a special. Played 36 holes of golf on a beautiful day. Everything about the course was in great shape starting from the tee boxes through the fairways to the greens. Played with Eric and Derek for the first time and enjoyed their company very much and of course my good friend Gerry who beat me time and again. The staff at The Rock are second to none as they were very respectful and personable. Couldn't wait to go back so Gerry and I played another 36 on Wednesday Aug 27th. Got beat again by Gerry.
Anyone who has the oppportunity to play The Rock - TAKE IT - you won't regret it.

Played the last minute day at The Rock on Tuesday August 26, 2008 and had a near perfect day. I played Muskoka Bay the day before so I was a bit spoiled comming in, but I have to say this course had better staff and nicer sand. The course overall was in excellent shape, very green, bunkers were all in perfect shape with thick well gromed white sand. Green were fairly fast and rolling true. Tee boxes were very good shape. Fairways were green and had very few divots. Several very interesting holes. If you can play this course for 100 dollars or less you really can't go wrong.
The 'NEW' Rock is a Better Rock... played yesterday from the middle tees and found it to be a very good test for the middle to higher handicap players ...stay away from the back tees is the best advice I can give... let the single digit handicappers enjoy those...
I found the greens to be a bit inconsistent and difficult to read... otherwise everything else was great...
This is not your uncle's resort course. WOW! When Nick Faldo saw this property he must have been reminded of another hilly one in Georgia. The elevation changes are subtle and yet dramatic when looking back at the tee (okay, not the 12th!!!). They add to uncertainty of club selection. Approach shots to the green need to be accurate as there is not much forgiveness and up and downs are as rare as birdies in some cases. The numerous ROCKS really do not come into play if your shot is well thought out and executed. In conjunction with LMG, the Rock is the best value in the area and the free replay does not hurt. Depending on where your coming from, make it a day as a bite and a beverage on the patio in between rounds lends to some beautiful scenery. Will definitely play again!
A must play, Great staff great course one word (WOW)

The Rock is definetly a northen dream. The view from numerous holes was stunning today especially with the totaly blue sky. The staff is very friendly and professional except for the Marshall today..telling us to play best ball for a couple holes...eventhough we never saw the group behind us on the tee blocks while we were on a green...he didnt ruin our day!!! Course managemnet and playing from the right tee blocks is top reccomendation for this course. If The Rock were closer it would be a course I would play often.
