The layout here alone is worth the $$$. However the course is not what I remember it to be. Needs some re-investment. A lot of spots on the fairways and greens that were very patchy. Hard to find grass in a lot of fairways, more of a greenish hardpan. Again, the layout(especially the Marsh) is fantastic and at a price in the mid 20's it's a great play!

Played this course yesterday. The course was in good shape. The greens were true. Fairways had a couple of rough spots on them. The fall rates are in effect and this course is well worth it. I would recommend getting out on this course before the end of the season.

Got the red flag rate which was great! played the hill/marsh. course was in good shape. greens were alot better than when i played just a month ago here. not having to wait on any holes is plus. only problem was Walking up to the trailer, there is a sign on the door that says b bak in 5 mins waited 15min for someone to help. other than that problem, i would suggest playing this course.

the money is not spent on the clubhouse, the carts would qualify for the clunker program. ours had two flats and backfired a lot. there was a 25 minute delay at the start. with that said the course was in good shape. challenging, and fun. i think there are better deals in the area though

I HAVE BEEN TO MANY UPSCALES IN THE AREA AND HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ONE THAT HAD A TRAILER AS A CLUBHOUSE. HOWEVER IN THE COURSES DEFENSE THE HOLES ARE CHALLENGING AND THE SCENERY IS FANTASTIC. BUGS ARE HORRID IN THE SUMMERTIME BUT HEY ITS OXFORD WHAT DO YOU EXPECT DEFINATELY NEED TO KEEP THE GREENS UNDER CONTROL AND MAINTAIN THEM MUCH BETTER KEEP TRYING TO MAKE IT BETTER AND LETS GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT WHEN THEY FINALLY BUILD A REAL CLUBHOUSE AND DONT LIVE IN IT DURING THE WINTER

Played 8/14 Marsh to Hills. Overall satisfied with the course, "Pro shop" is "different", disappointed no water to drink on course and no drink cart making rounds. Could have played many other tracks for the cost, $35.00.

One of worst greens in MI!

I'd rather play the city courses with better greens for the same price!

Thought I posted this already but great course as always but we played around 1:00 on a Friday and these were the slowest greens I have played all year. I played Fern Hill for a work golf outing today and those greens were faster than Copper Hills last Friday.

Besides the very slow greens, good as usual.

I play Copper Hills on a regular basis. I played on a Thursday before I took two friends of mine from out of town on Saturday. The Hill course had long grainy greens on Thursday and again on Saturday. There was no reason why they couldn't cut them down for the weekend. The saving grace was that my friends raved about the courses. Great layouts and elevation changes. But, we were disgusted with the poor shape of the greens.

The Hill and Marsh 9's are as good as it gets. The Jungle (which is the marketing piece) is very good as well. If anyone knows of a better design/layout within 100 miles of here, tell me! For the average guy who could care less about the trailer park clubhouse, this is the best dollar for dollar course in the Midwest! Great challenge, great risk/reward!

Great layout. Never saw other golfers except near the clubhouse. The condition of the course was above average, except for the sand traps. This is typical of most public courses in the Detroit area. Has an northern Michigan feel to it. Need to play it at least once to get a feel for the hole lenghts and layout. Seeing a doe and her two fawns gave us the feeling of vacation golf in the northern lower peninsula and the U.P.

I play Copper Hills about 10 times a year, and I am never disappointed. The course has a great variety of holes with three different nines (Hill, Marsh, Jungle) with degree of difficulty in that order. #9 on Hill is one of the most difficilt holes in Michigan (even with the large tree in the swamp in front of the green now dead). The par threes (all 6 of themas a group)are probably the most challenging of any course that I have played and I mean that in a good way. Elevation changes and or carry over swamps on every one!

Pace of play is always great and often during the week you rarely see other golfers (you will see deer, muskrat, woodchuck, turtles, rabbits, and a variety of birds). The starters are very concious about keeping 4-somes and 2-somes spread out so there are rare occasions when you get held up!

The greens are a little slow this year (over seeded and sanded this spring), but still roll true. And they are starting to come around.

This is a great value golf course and a hidden gem in lower Michigan. If you like a challenge, play the tips or Blues, but this is a very enjoyable course from whatever tees you choose!

I play this course several times every season.
It is always in great shape and the staff is always frindly.
They don't have a great clubhouse but the you don't play the clubhouse.

You have to drive to Petoskey Michigan to find anything close to the beauty of this gem.

Golf Digest ranked them in the top 25 course in michigan. The Detroit News rated them the number 1 best design in the metro area and I just read for 2009 were Copper Hills received national honors for one of the 18 most brutal beautifuly holes in the US and Canada.

That has to tell you something.

What a gem! Even Larry Herndon would like this place. All three nines are distinct and have their own signature holes. Always in great shape. This is one of the best value courses within 200 miles.

Played the Jungle and the Hill....It was in very good condition and the pace of play was great...If you play here, do yourself a favor and use the driver sparingly....there are a few par 4's on the Jungle that are great birdie holes if you play them smart...Overall its a very nice course...if you can get a red flag to play there do it.

Played here 07/23. Forget about the lack of amenities. Forget about the lack of yardage indicators. Forget about all of the abandoned homes throughout the course that have fallen victim to the Michigan economy. This is an unbelievably designed and challenging course. From the tips or the blues it is as tough as they come.

Bethpage Black - Rating 76.6 Slope 148 Yds 7366

Copper Hills - Rating 73.3 Slope 145 Yds 6734

Do yourself a favor and play here.

Wow. I am really impressed with this course. My brother and I played Copper Hills this morning for a $35 last minute rate and it was worth every penny. Copper Hills is 27 holes with 3 nine's- the Hill, the Jungle, and the Marsh. We played the Jungle then the Hill. It is evident why this course was at one time ranked as Golf Digest's #3 public course in Michigan. As a twosome we did not run into any other groups until the last 5 holes. The starter was very conscientious about where he was putting the 2's and 4's to get everybody through as smooth as possible.

The greens are smooth and roll very true. They were not overly fast and I had no problem keeping the ball on them. A few of the holes I even spun the ball back behind my mark a few feet which does not happen for me very often. A couple of the greens were a bit marked up but not to the point of it being a complaint. Many of the greens are well protected and have some minor elevation changes. As a result, if you do not drop the ball in with your irons and tend to run the ball up to the green I would expect you to find this course much more difficult and you may want to look somewhere else.

The course is not real tight but you do not want to be spraying the ball too far off mark or you will be digging back into your bag for another. The fairways are well manicured. Playing from the blues, there are some shorter par 4's that you can get some risk/reward with a large drive, but you can also play them safe with a long iron/short iron.

There is not much to the clubhouse, but I could care less about that. The staff is very nice. There is no beverage cart (I don't know if there is on the weekends) so stock up at the start and at the turn.

Overall the course is very nice and has a genuine up-north feel to it. It is spread out amongst a large piece of land, and I don't recall a single hole that there was an opportunity for side by side cross-fire from other holes. There are some decent rides through the woods in between many of the holes which are nice to cool you off. Bugs were also not a problem for us at all.

I know I will be back to check out the Marsh. Copper Hills is a fantastic track. Check it out sometime. You won't be disappointed.
