We had a wonderful day, the course is in good condition and the staff is very accomodating. The one BIG suggestion I would have is the markings and direction on the course needs some serious work. It makes it dangerous due to the fact that it is already somewhat risky with steep hills and blind corners, but with no signage telling golfers where to go it makes for an interesting day....

Played 18 on 7/3 and 9 on 7/4. It was my first time playing this course, and I was pleasantly surprised. We teed off super-early (6:07 and 6:15) but saw the crowds building on the first tee as we passed it throughout our rounds. The greens were in pretty amazing shape. The course is wide-open and the rough is cut pretty short as well, so you have the ability to score well if your iron play is strong. It's a short course, so it's a confidence-builder, as someone else mentioned earlier. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the experience; by far the best I've had on a city course.

BGGC is in flux.
Played on the 06/03 and yea, I knew it would be packed and slow. What I didn't know is the NEW MANAGEMENT would condone selling tee times scheduled before walk ups even pay. So those that payed for a scheduled tee time were trumped by walk ups, creating confusion and tension at the 1st tee. The frustration was obvious with the starter. BTW, these volunteers have always done a great job, one of the reasons I choose BJGC over the other city courses.

The attitude in the club house seems to have changed and I not so sure it is for the better. I hope American Golf gets a hold on this quick as intown Atlanta has many choices. BJGC has been the best managed in the Atl network, don't scerw it up.
As for the course, well the fairways are staring to show stress for lack of water (at least it is raining today and hopefully not to late). The greens are great. Hard and well trafficed but very well maintained for a muni.

I have played this course for a while and hope to continue.

good course.. greens and fairways in good condition.. the onyl bad thing is thatfor a first timer like me the hole layouts were confusing. EX: if you tee of on number 1, number 14's tees and fairways ar right next t so it got a little confunsing as to which fariway to aim for.. but we went with the flow and had a good time.. come to this course for a cheap price and good golf

I've been playing this course for about 15 years off and on. It is currently in the best condition I have ever seen. Remember its a municipal course do don't expect 4 hour rounds after 8am

BJGC is a nice course if want to play in town. The setup makes the short course more challenging. The greens roll true. The major drawback to this course is the drainage problem. The course is in a low area of the city and rainwater collects on the course. Overall, it is a nice course and a good value. I will be playing again.

The greens at Bobby Jones used to have no grass on them. However, now they are TIF Burmuda now and very nice. It is a fun course with some crazy holes, but very scoreable. Always a crowd, so don't expect to play in less than 4 hours. But since the new greens I recommend it for a good ego booster.

This course is a great value for the casual golfer living in Atlanta. Though it plays a little slow on the weekend I still enjoyed my round. The course is pretty short even from the blues and very open, sometimes with only a few trees separating you from the next whole. There are a couple of spots where you feel like you are in danger of getting hit by other balls which is quite concerning. 1.) On the first tee the cart path takes you in front of the 10th tee box twice! 2.) Hole 8 has a very elevated tee box and the optimum driving location is over trees and a par 3 on the back. While teeing off on the par 3 another group was teeing off above us and we had 3 balls land within 15 yards of us. It is a little hard to concentrate on a tee shot with tree limbs and balls dropping near you. Overall I had a great time playing the course. It is a relaxing layout that is not too challenging. You can easily make it off the course without losing too many balls!

I played in a tournament here on Sunday May 31. I had a great time and can't wait for the next tournament. They have one on the last Sun. of every month. The course is very short and pretty easy especially in a 4 man Scramble. It has a fun layout with lots of hilly holes. You can easily reach all the par 5's in 2. The fairways are in good shape but the tee boxes need some work. There were a few that looked like bunkers. The greens were very very slow that day. They could have used a trim but they did role pretty true. They are always slow to get people off of the first tee but then it pick's up pretty well. Over all it is a decent course in downtown Atlanta.

"I don't get it" Maybe because it was a sunday and it was packed, maybe i thought they tried to fit 18 holes were nine should go but I was not to satisfied. Pretty boring but if you live downtown it's pretty close to home. Carts are in pretty bad shape and they could work on the fairways.

I played this course first time on this Wed, SuperTwilight. I waited six carts to start, as a sort of tournament thing was going on.
This course was in a much better condition than i expected. THe layout of the front nine was quite interesting, including 7-8 up and down hill holes, which were quite impressing me, i havent expected this sort of holes in this course...
Yes, this course is shorter than typical courses, but lots of fun, and green was much much faster and true than i thought...basically the layout of the greens is a sort of plain, but fast..
I was quite impressed because some previous reviews of my friends were different than what i experienced yesterday..they had tried this course several years back though..

I guess you will need to wait a lot during weekends..

The Bobby is a great intown course. Where else can you hit between old growth hardwoods? The course is a bit wet as are most courses right now. The fairways are coming in nicely and the greens will be there soon.
Thouse that complain of slow play on Sat. morning? Guys it is a public muni and Sat. morning, what do you expect at these prices. Go join a Country Club if you want golf like this with no crowd.
One amenity at BJGC that is second to none is their volunteer marshal service, these guys are the key to the real enjoyment of this high traffic course. Lose a club? Chances are they'll find it. Need a course tip, chances are they have one. Just a nice bunch of guys.

Played last Thursday by myself but joined up with a couple other players cause there was no place to go. Bad place to go if you want to play quick. Great for the pace of a foursome but otherwise there will be a lot of waiting time. The greens ran true but were a little furry but with the rain going away they will be nice when they get cut tight. A little trim here and there and thanks for filling in the tee boxes. No more humps. I give it a thumbs up and will play there on Monday.

Played BJGC Sat morning. Cost was $40 on LMTT but if you are a City resident it might be cheaper. I havent played here in 7 yrs. It hasnt changed much - and I remember why its been 7 yrs. While its very convenient for those who live in the city, there is one major drawback - theres a lot of people who live in the city. The scorecard point #1 says Pace of play is 4 hrs 1min. LOL - Many holes had 3 grps of 4 on them... We stepped on the 10th tee 3 hrs after we stepped on the first. But the back played much faster - and we were done in just over 2 hrs. But still a 5 hr round. Typical American golf packing them in (also see North Fulton)

The club house could be so much more - but is very basic. A few shirts hats gloves balls etc. The other rooms of the club house were very bare. No nice grill room or such facilities. There was a gas grill outside serving overpriced food. The cart did come round several times tho.

The important stuff - the course is old parkland style with mature trees making accurate shots pay. Its nice course to look at. Its short by todays stds @ 6000 from the tips. It still doesnt drain very well tho adn the fairways were patchy at best and very wet considering the rain a few days prior. Drainage ditches not hazards cross the fairways but dont drain very well. Greens are Bermuda and were in decent shape as were the bunkers I encountered.

There are many better courses in ATL area that I prefer to go to on a Sat morn. 5 hrs isnt fun when every someone who thinks they can play show up - But for that occasional convenient after work round, its not bad.

See for yourself...

This course is convenient, and inexpensive.
I did not like not having a driving range to warm up on. The course was wet, there were no marshals out keeping the pace of the game, and the amenities were weak. people were very nice, and it was a decent layout. I have played this course in the mid summer, and it was in better shape then.
Not my favorite, but I will go back because it it a great way to wait out traffic @ 4pm.

Pros: Greens were rolling very true. If you miss a putt you have no one to blame but yourself. I like the layout too, with so much elevation change you get a lot of different looks. The price was very fair (40 dollars to ride on a Sunday) and the staff was friendly.

Cons: We played the day after the rain and there was quite a bit of standing water, especially on the backside. The course is also a little short for my liking, I believe it was about 6100 from the tips.

Overall: This is the first time I played Bobby Jones and I was very satisfied. The greens were rolling true and I didn't think the layout was as confusing as some others seem to think. I will definitely go back!

I am new to golf and have only played about 10 courses. I have played this one 3 times so far. In comparison, i love playing at Bobby Jones. The atmosphere is laid back and the course is easy to read as long as you follow the book. For the beginner especially it is nice to take your time and learn. The staff has always been nice. They will also throw out tips and tricks if asked. The tee boxes are worn in spots but still able to tee well. The Greens are very good even when just damp. And the fairways are a good with but still provide good challenges. I would recommend this course and will go back again myself.

Played Bobby Jones early on 3/8, barely after sun-up. I've lived in the area for years, but this is only the second time I've played it, and I will definitely return. While this is certainly not a prime course, for the value and location, it is hard to beat.

I actually like the course layout, as it is very old and traditional, with some interesting options on certain holes. I wish it was about 500 yards longer (maxes out at 5900), but other than that, no complaints on layout. Some of the tee boxes were well worn, and fairways are still in winter condition, but greens were in good shape and relatively quick.

If you go into this course with reasonable expectations, you will enjoy your time. If you expect it to compare to high-end daily fee, private, or resort courses, you will be disappointed. But, I paid $26 to walk on a Sun. morning (resident fee), and played in 3 and a half hours, and that's tough to beat, especially given its central location. I also received better service here than I have at some high-end daily fee, resort, or private courses in ATL.

On the positive side would defeinitely be the location which is extremely convenient if you live anywhere near Buckhead/Midtown. As a beginner Bobby Jones was very challenging the two times I played there. I had a lot of fun playing a nice course with some exciting holes with elevation changes and some that are more straightforward.

On the negative side some of the fairways run together so it is hard to know which one you're supposed to be hitting towards and there are always some errant shots on the wrong fairway. The course does not drain well when there have been recent rainstorms, but then again I was playing in December on a day I knew conditions would be tough.

The only real drawback to Bobby Jones is the layout. Some of the fairways are only separated by a couple of large oak trees, so there isn't much penalty for spraying a drive. However, the champion bermuda greens were in really great shape, and were very fast and challenging. I would say that the fast putting makes up for the low-risk tee shots in making this a challenging course. The clubhouse was a colonial style house made into a clubhouse, which I loved. Modestly furnished and decorated, it sets in there nicely to compliment historical Buckhead, and the service was very much "up to par."

Not sure what the hype is? It's down the street from my office, so I was excited to have a convenient course to play. It's just a bad layout! You don't know where to start or where to hit. Some of the fairways cross each other. For the price $30-$40, you can find much better deals on LMG.
