I'm confused by recent great reviews of this course. They were grossly inaccurate. I played there on Sunday 7/12 and found the fairways to be burned out, thin, weedy, and hard as a rock. The greens were still recovering from aeration and sanding, but you could tell they are well maintained. I just can't say the same about the fairways. They were terrible. Had reviews been accurate, I would not have gone there. For the same price, Browns Mills would have been a much better choice. It's truly in great shape from tee to fairways to the greens.

I play this course often. The greens are in great shape and the course layout is pretty challenging. The 9th and 17th holes are a great test of your driving ability. You will come back just to play these two holes. Overall this is a fun course and a great test of your skills. Bunkers are rock hard which is disappointing but is a playable course.
Played the course a few time staff is great course in good shape, aeration of greens being done but still a great time 9 and 17 still great test, will return. great value.
2nd time playing, 1st time finishing 18 holes. I enjoyed playing the course, some of the greens could have been better, had alot of sand on them, but other than that overall I enjoyed this course.

I played this course 1or2 a month great value for the money, nothing special.
number 9 and 17 are almost worth the whole course. don't get stuck in the sand because it is hard as a rock. Greens were in decent shape and the fairways were pretty decent but don't be surprised when you find yourself hitting off dirt.

"Greens are in awesome shape. Fairways could use some help. Great Course for the money!!!"
I picked up a cheap afternoon tee time here the other day. The greens were rather quick and the pin placement was more difficult than other times I've played here recently. The fairways could use some attention as well. Overall for the value not a bad course

I played 4/26/09. The greens couldn't have been in better condition. BRAVO! The fairway was something else. It was mostly dirt and rock. There was no advantage to hitting a shot in the fairway. In fact, balls just off the fairway and in the ruff were easier to hit. Whoever is taking care of th greens needs to help out the fellow on the fairway.
Tup is Atlanta's hidden gem as far as I'm concerned. I've played here a number of times and never experienced a 5 hour round. That's more than I can say about Bobby Jones, North Fulton and Brown's Mill.
It's a fairly open course with little water, which makes it easy to score on. Just remember to pull out the driver on 17, it's a good one.
Yes, they do have hot dogs.

I played this course in Mar 19 2009. Found it to be pretty good for a public course. Not too difficult. But a good value for the price. Greens were fast and in excellent shape!

During the summer and fall I play about once a week. It is a great value for the money. IDo to the way the course is designed, some of the holes will test you skills while others seem fairly easy. The best thing about the course are the greens. They are better than a lot ot area semiprivate courses. They staff is always professional and gracious.

I played "Tup" on 11/11. Greens are in great shape. There were areas on the course with soft grounds because of moisture build up. The staff was very professional even though the credit card machine went down. Luckily I had enough cash and had to call my buddies to stop by the telly. I had a great time playing on a sunny Tuesday.

I have played this course at least once a week since May 08, and always have a geat experience. The clubhouse guys Rob, Alexis and Jim do a first-class job.
The greens are fast and in great shape. The fairways are also in very good shape, rough around the edges in places but wouldn't know that if I had kept my ball in the middle of the fairway.
I enjoyed fast play as it usually is overcrowed like Bobby Jones and Browns Mill. A couple of bunkers needs work, but overall this is a great course and a great value.
American Golf has really done a great job there over the last 6 months.
I played this course on 09/17 and the greens were in good shape although rolling a little slow compared to other courses in the area. The course overall plays super short (only 6100 from the tips) and an above average player should play this course well with accurate drives. I felt like I was playing an executive course on steroids. All of the par 5's are must birdies (longest was 485). The most memorable hole is the downhill 290 yard par 4, an above average player should be able to take 3 wood to the green. Definitely not my favorite course but for $20 I can not complain.
Played Sunday 9/7. This course is run by American Golf and is one of several they manage in Atlanta. All are old courses and several are considered in town Atlanta. Course was in good condition with a little thinning around the edges of the fairways which is usual for a course of this age. I believe we saw four other groups all day. We were never pushed nor did we wait for another group....ON A SUNDAY. OK, it was the first game of the season for the Falcons and most were at home watching that. All the greens were rebuilt a couple of years ago with Champions Bermuda. They are firm and resistant to most ball marks unless recently watered or rained. They putt true and roll moderately fast, maybe a 7 or 8 on the meter. Most of the bunkers were raked and fluffy. There is no beverage cart but they had a lady cooking up Brats, hot dogs and burgers. Unfortunately you need to get to her fast as she was cleaning up to leave at our 11:30 tee time (isn't lunch still around 12:00 noon?). I would play here again for a less hectic course near to town.

I agree that a couple of layouts were "different" but overall a great course and a great value.

I read the guys review below about the service and had to respond.
If you're a white guy and always wondered what it would be like being black at a majority white country club, then golf at Tup Holmes a few times. You learn a lot being a non-black golfer golfing at a predominately black golf course.
The service is not outright rude or discriminatory, but you are treated differently in a cold but fair manner.
I've golfed with black friends and have golfed there with white friends. The level of service is slightly different. It's easier to be nicer to people that look like you.
One example was when I went there with a white friend. We were half an hour early to twilight and were not allowed to get on early. That's fair. But another time, with my black friends, we got on early and still paid twilight.
American Golf has stepped up their game at Tupp Holmes as well as at Bobby Jones, North Fulton and Browns Mill. The conditioning of the greens has gotten a lot better.
The layout is interesting and some holes could be called wacky, like the 200 yard downhill par three across a huge canyon and built way to close to another hole. On the other hand there are some downhill par 4's where you can really crank a drive well past your average, because of the firm fairways.
The course is worth playing a few times, but like Bobby Jones, the length of the course and lack of challenge for a sub-15 handicapper will get boring after a few rounds. I'll also say that the pace of play is much better than North Fulton or BJones. The area tends to scare away the 'rich white folks', as told me by one of the cart boys.
My Dad and I have been long time American Golf annual pass members and we have to rotate between all the courses just to stay sane.

This was the first time I had played this course(3 of us). I did not go into this course expecting much. I would say this the service was not very good: everything form the cashier to the starter to distant parking. However, the course was in pretty good shape. Greens were above average slow of course(bermuda during a drought). Fairways were very nice not cut to tight. Tee boxes were hit or miss. I would would probably play again. The value was very good though. Played for a little over $29 dollars. Sidenote: They had some excellent hamburgers.

I give this course very high ratings because i feel it deserves it. The fairways are exceptional as well as as the greens. The staff is incredible and very helpful. From the club house to the guy who cleans your clubs for you after your round. The course has some challenging holes, and like someone else said, you aren't penalized to much for an errant tee shot. If you haven't played here put it on your list. I will definitely be back.
