Played Blue Heron 6-16. My friend and I had to laugh, it was like playing on another planet! The greens were completely brown! The fairways were in such poor shape that a straight shot down the middle was often lost. We warmed up on the practice range where all the mats pitched downhill. You actually had to get your ball to stop rolling before you could hit it.Having said that, the course has lots of potential. It could be nice with the some decent management and maintenance. For now though, I would stay away from this course for awhile.

I really want to like Blue Heron: I think it has a great layout that, for an executive course, does a great job at making the player use every shot in his arsenal. However, there's no way around the fact that the course is kept in terrible condition. Many of the fairways alternate between hardpan and muddy lies, regardless of the weather conditions; the tee boxes all seem to be either overgrown or with no grass at all; the greens are so hard and bumpy that most aerial approaches to the green take hard bounces and roll off the putting surface.
I understand that there are limitations to the site that the course must work with, but at least improving the maintenance of the tees and greens would do wonders for its playability. As the only public course in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area, Blue Heron can afford to raise its current rates by $10 or more in order to take better care of the grounds.

Course has a good layout that allows a golfer to learn their shotmaking. Problem with the course is players too lazy to repair ball marks on the greens or rake the sand traps (I suspect they're the same ones complaining about the course). Many don't realize the property was salvaged from a city dump and don't appreacite the architect's design around the required conditions.

Guy was real nice, it was really cheap ($18 for 18 on mondays). But that didn't really make up for the terrible fairway and green conditions. Really short, and a surprise par 5. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to warm up with a little frustration before hitting a round at another course.

I played this course in early Feb. I would not return to this course. The Tee boxes are very damaged and could not get a tee into most places. The Greens were divited and rutted. The Fairways on the few long holes are very hard to read, you have to stop your drive short on most holes for a beginner. The short holes on this course are great to practice short tees and chipping but again a loss when you go to putt. I will say the staff was very nice and the coubhouse and range is nice as well. The price is ok but many better values in ATL area for the price.

My buddy and I love this course. Its can be a very challenging, very fast course. It is in the middle of a bunch of power lines, which just adds to the challenges. Very narrow fairways, and wonderful greens. Outside of the fairways is pretty rough, and you can easily lose balls if you are not careful. I recomend this course to anybody.

Better than nothing. They have a good driving range to pop into on your lunch break if you work in the area. The short course is good for people who are very inexperienced or just learning (my girlfriend loves it). Go online to their website for good deals if you can't book a tee time through LMG.
Monday is a deal for $18. But it’s not really worth it. Tee boxes are rock hard and sandy. Fairways are not too bad but again rock hard and in some areas the grass is overgrown. Bunkers are actually in pretty good shape. But most importantly the greens are just terrible. The layout is quite hilly and is rather tricky with small greens and large drop offs, and all this with a layout running under power lines and huge communication towers. If they could improve the greens maybe it could be considered a decent little (yet rough) executive course.

We played on Sat. 8/9/08. I enjoy the tough layout and the tight fairways but the conditions in general leave alot to be desired. The greens are almost unplayable at most holes. The high "rough" in some areas make finding a ball impossible but the high grass in the middle rough, you shouldnt lose balls in that area. Grass needs cutting. The people working there are very nice and helpful but the course needs alot of improvement. Will go back for the value and availible early tee times.

OK for a low cost round and for good hitters. If you don't stay on the fairway expect a lot of lost balls in the tall weeds, and briars which line most fairways. Greens are very rough look like a bad case of acne - but playable. Tough course for a beginner.
Not bad for the $18 dollar mondays. Course plays quick so it only takes about 2-2.5 for a round. Also is right here in sandy springs....so close.

Blue Herron is convenient to work. We can go out after work and get a round in when we can't get out on another course. The last time I played, the greens were horrible, they were filled with dead patches and bare dirt. The tee boxes were just as bad and not level. Definately not worth the full price of a round of golf ($31.00). When my friends and I run out of 2for1 coupons, we will not go back, but for $15.50 each it is a decent practice course.

Not a great course if you are looking for a really nice round. The holes are short and have some very weird layouts, but it is cheap so i guess you get what you pay for.
I played this course on April 24th for the first and last time. The location of the course is very convenient to those living in North Fulton County. This course is basically a glorified par 3. They have a couple par 4s and I believe one par 5. The greens were in terrible condition and the tee boxes were just as bad. There are a few nice holes, but you play most with a short iron. I would recommend this course for someone who is trying to work on their short game or has limited time to get out on a better course. The front desk staff was nice and courteous, but the course sheriff was kind of annoying and a bit of a jerk.
