Played the course on 7/9/09. This was a long drive for me but it was well worth it. The staff was great. The cart boy brought me a cart with a smile, the pro-shop lady was very polite and friendly, the starter/ranger was accommodating. The course itself is gorgeous. It is a break from the normal courses around the Atl area. I felt like I was not in GA. This course is not piece of cake. Good shots are rewarded and bad shots are - DEAD! The tall grasses around each hole make the seemingly wide open course a little tighter then it looks. Tee boxes were good, fairways were great, and the greens were very good.

A little different look to this course makes it one I will return to play soon although it is a long drive for me.

I played this course about a month ago. I made the long drive from Roswell GA only because I am a golf addict and it was a great deal. The people were friendly. The course was nice overall but I played poorly so my experience is a bit tainted. The course is very challenging and with knee high fescue on over half of the fairways makes Long Shadow a target golf course with little chance to recover from an errant tee shot. Greens rolled pretty well but there were some bad spots in the fairways here and there. From Roswell the Lion Golf Club is about the same distance and is plush. I might return but I will have to get my golf game together.

Played 4th of July weekened and the course was in great shape. The course has a nice flow to it and has alot more room off the tee than appears. This was my third time playing and was my best experience dispite my performance. The people there are very accomodating and really want you to have a nice golf experience.

Played Long Shadow for the second time today, with much better results than the first(improved my score by 13 strokes). All the other reviews speak the truth- good tee's, nice fairways, and most greens in great shape. Yeah, there is more to be desired with the clubhouse, etc. but I always plan ahead and take my own cooler. No reason to give this course a sub-par review because of that. Got a great price on LMTT. This course is slowly becoming my favorite course, and I don't mind traveling the 30 min. to play this course. If you want a challenging round and enjoy a great layout, Long Shadow is for you. I will say that it is different than any other course I have played in the Athens/East Atl. area. Best way to describe is a British Open feel. And I recommend when teeing off on 18, take a moment and look at the view of almost the entire back nine. Very, very nice.

Back to Long Shadow on Sunday for the first time in about six weeks. The course is in fine shape and the greens are 100% improved over my last visit there. 2 or 3 had some burned patches but they all rolled pretty smooth and true which you couldn't say last time I played there.

Fairways are in great shape, again with just a few dry patches here and there and mostly out of the way.

Pace of play was sensational for a weekend. We were a twosome and never had to wait on anybody. I had a lousy day swinging my sticks and still enjoyed being there, if that tells you anything about the course.

Played yesterday and had a great time as usual. Only problem with greens was a few that are getting a little burned (maybe 4 of them). These are quite a bit faster than the others so you have to be conscious when hitting chips/putts.

The layout is amazing...as close to a links course as you can find in GA. You had better bring your A game if you want to play from the back tees....7400 yards and NARROW. If you spray your tee ball around you will lose balls...and you will go big with your score. Number 11 has to be the hardest par 4 in Georgia (somehow the course rating is 10?). It is 480 yards....uphill...and the landing area off the tee looks about 20 yards wide. It also played into the wind which made it fun.

This is a course you have to try...it's a great value and will make you hit every club in your bag.

Played on 6/20 and overall was impressed with the golf course itself. The clubhouse consists of a trailer and needless to say, bring your own lunch and drinks. They didn't have a beverage cart running on this day (Saturday) and with temps approaching my golf score, 100, there wasn't water to be found. Be warned that they do NOT sell beer so BYOB.

As for the course, the fairways were in great shape and the greens were good enough. Still a little patchy in places but overall not too bad. Layout is nice and challenging. Bunkers are everywhere and unlike a lot of other courses they actually have real sand in them and not a combination of dirt/sand. Also, we didn't see another golfer on the course so for me, that's a definite plus.

Overall, great value if you bring your own food and drink and not too bad of a drive from the east side of Atlanta.

This course has been around for three years+ and everyone says it is still "maturing." The only thing that needs to get better on this course is the attitude of the employees. I booked a time online through LMTT and they had a walk up in my time slot. My foursome started late, and we were rushed all the time because they did not pair together twosomes to make foursomes. Not once did I see an ranger, just a few latin-americans runnings tractors and cutting down tress. We let three twosomes, and a couple of threesomes play through and that caused us to wait around and pushed our loop to almost 6 hours. With the 100+ heat index, coupled with no water in the water coolers, it was entirely too long to stay out there. I hope that when the course "matures" they figure out that they need to take care of the patrons who frequent the course regularly. I have played this course @ least 3 dozen times and hope they can finally grasp the concept of customer service. Until they get better in that regard, I might not go back for a while.

Played on 6/11.Course overall in good shape. Greens still need some time to recover from last aeration. Fairways on back nine still thin in a lot of places. LMTT price is fair and would recommend play but wouldn't pay top dollar until course fully matures. Have played here quite a few times in past two years and can see no great improvements being made possibly to the lack of play this course seems to be getting. No play no funds for improvement.

Played on Tuesday at 9:45 and only saw three other groups. LMTT price was a great value for our 4some. Nice driving range and putting green available.
Fairways and greens were in great shape. Greens were fast but true. If your ball finds the native grass (it was over three feet high and very thick), you will pay the price to get out.
I only had one complaint: no course layout on the scorecard or tee markers. We were told that they were working on getting both.
This course will challenge you on every shot. Defintely worth the drive. We plan a return trip soon.

I played LSGC a few weeks ago and left a review.

Things are better than they were a few weeks ago. The biggest improvement is the greens. Before, they were unbearable to put on. Rough, slow, bouncy...

They are filling in very well now. They hold a line fine. They are cleaning up nice. Before, I'd say they were a 3 out of 10. Now, they are about a 7/10.

For the cost to play here, it's the best deal in town!

There have been several recent reports on this course which accurately describe the general course conditions, so I'm not going to cover the same ground again. I just want to mention a couple notable changes I noticed when I played on Saturday, June 6th.

There are a few more employees scurrying around the clubhouse, and most welcome is a beverage cart girl, something this course really needed. I don't know if she'll be a 7-days-a-week or weekends only addition, but you can call ahead to find out. I saw her three times during our round. She seems like a sweet energetic young lady. With the heat of summer upon us, this is a welcome addition.

The fairways have recently been core aerated, but there are no plugs laying around. Your ball may find one of these new holes, it's really no big deal, but worth mentioning.

The course currently has paved golf cart paths which lead you off the tee box areas, then dump you onto the fairway or rough. Saturday we were told that, due to recent rains causing wet fairways, we were to use the "90 degree rule". What they've done is paint blue lines along one side of each fairway, and we were to keep outside the line until we reached our ball. Typical of other 90 degree situations, except for the "Krylon cart paths". This is a good sign to me of a course manager wanting to preserve and improve the fairway conditions. That's good news for us golfers.

With very competitive rates which include range balls, a welcoming and courteous staff, a straightforward and challenging course layout, and like-new golf carts, this is a course worth considering if it's within your driving distance limits.

If Im not mistaken, the previous poster on this course was on of the guys I played with on 06/06. The course was in pretty good shape, the greens were a little rough and needed some attention. Like the previous poster, the course has an amazing layout, and if you can make the commute and play this course before it blows up and gets expensive, you must do it. This course will definitely test your game and make you work hard for your score. I shot a 103 which is roughly my average which I was pretty fine with, because I did play from the gold, which I normally play at the whites and average around a 100 as well... Make the pilgrimage to this course.. You will be sorry if you dont.

My first time at Long Shadow after reading all of the praise from Golfweek. This is a course everyone needs to try. It still has some maturing to do, as the greens are in pretty rough shape for being aerated a month ago, but it didn't take away from the experience.

The back 9 is a bear. I played from the gold's so no. 11 was a true test (461yd par 4... up hill the entire way!). I am a 10 capper and shot 88... it was one of the better 88's I have ever posted.

The layout is top notch. This course will be one of Georgia's finest once the greens improve over time and they put in a permanent clubhouse.

Play it now while it's cheap and relatively unknown. As far as layout and beauty, this course rivals any public course in an 80 mile radius from Atlanta.

I played this course for the first time today after reading all the reviews on here. I was not disappointed. I loved the course. When people talk about a course being a Scottish links style, my experience has been that it's only a passing resemblance. Not so here. Granted, I've never been to Scotland but from what I've seen on TV, Long Shadow is very similar. Not covered in trees, lots of mounding, bunkering and large greens with native grasses providing the penalties for wayward shots.

I found the back nine to be a little tougher than the front, with a lot more water and other elements that make you really think on each shot. There are several neat risk/reward opportunities throughout the course. I thought the general condition of the course was quite good. Some thin spots here and there, but nothing bad. The greens were not great. They aerated on May 4 and they still show it. However, they rolled pretty true for us today although they were definitely slow, which is something I really don't mind at all.

To say the course is scenic would be an understatement. #13 is a par 3 over water and you drive over a long bridge over the lake that is remeniscent of the serpentine bridge at Callaway Gardens, if you've ever played there. Beautiful spot!

I paid $22 for a LMTT red flag time, but even for the regular price, this place is a bargain. I can't wait to get back out there and have another go!

3 friends and I played yesterday, May 30.

This is my second time playing Long Shadow. It's been a while but I was excited to get back out and play it.

The club house has not improved in the year since I had been there. A shoddy selection of clubs, but I suppose retail sales isn't there thing. That's not a big deal. Just a heads-up for others, have everything you need before you arrive.

The staff is friendly and helpful.

The tee boxes looked fantastic.

The fairways, overall, were nice. There were a few struggling areas.

The greens were in really rough shape. I am no greens keeper, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But it seemed as though they didn't have enough sand and the grass that was there needed to be cut. The result was that the greens were slow AND bumpy. I was disappointed with the greens. I've played freshly aerated greens that played nicer.

The course lay out is superb. There is so much risk/reward. In my reviews that is one of my most important points of review. I love the idea that you CAN use a driver but you're taking on a large risk. The smart shot may be a 3 wood but you need to make up a stroke on a buddy...it just makes for a really fun round. This course really does score a 10/10 in this category for me. I love it. The guys who played there for the first time, with me, loved it.

The greens may suck at the moment, but it's still a heck of a value and it's a really fun course.

Played the round with a friend from ATL. Perfect drive coming from ATL and Augusta. We definitely thought we were playing a links course with the wind and the lack of trees. The scenery is incredible.
The greens from about 150 yards looked great but you could tell they were aerated within the last few weeks. But they rolled somewhat smooth but were definitely on the slower side.
Some of the fairways needed to be mowed, and the crew was out doing just that on a few of the holes we were playing.
There was great service at the proshop. The only complaint my friend had was there wasn't any cups at the water coolers for a quick drink.
A couple hints about the course if you haven't played it. Keep the drives low, just like a links course the wind will take it for a ride if not. Do not and I repeat do not hit in the native grass. If you do just chalk it up as a gift to the person that happens to find it looking for their wayward shot.
I will definitely be setting up another tee time at Long Shadow again in the near future.

The layout of the course is awesome. You truly get a sense that you are in Scotland playing a links course because of the incredible scenery, numerous bunkers (imagine St. Andrews in GA) and wind coming off of the water. The fairways are decent to good. The greens have not come in from the recent aerification yet so they were very sandy and bumpy today. The back nine has some breathtakingly beautiful holes.

The driving range is great and you get free range balls with your tee time. The clubhouse is not much at the moment. The staff was not extemely helpful and very unorganized.

I really look forward to playing this course again once the greens have come in. This should be an outstanding course once it matures and the play picks up so they can put more money into it. I would definitely recommend playing the course.

Played 4-19. Greens were firm and rolling well with moderate speed. Fairways are starting to green up although a couple were struggling. Native grass is over a foot deep in spots. Course is playing very firm and fast.

Here’s my take- This is a golfers course- theres no cart girl and not much to eat in the trailer clubhouse. That matters zero to me. What I value about Longshadow is that it is a reasonably priced exhillerating golf experience. This links style course, while not pristinely conditioned, has top notch shot values- in my book reason enough to check this place out. If you enjoy thinking your way around a golf course and you don’t get hung up about encountering a few less than perfect lies over the course of a round you need to go. Risk/reward scenarios abound, starting at the first where the choice is to take driver, bring some hideous bunkers into play and try to leave a short pitch to the green, or to lay back with an iron or hybrid off the tee. The par five third tempts you to bring a pond into play off the tee for a chance to reach the green in two. And it goes on and on. The green complexes are well thought out- from the short ninth and fourteenth which require precise short irons into tiny crowned greens that punish errant shots, to the long second and eleventh holes which feature large two-tiered greens that are more forgiving.

In the end, while a good hike from Atlanta, the quality of the course, reasonable price, and excellent pace of play have made this course a regular in my rotation.

We played the course Friday, April 17th and man did this course kick my you know what!!! I am an 8 handicapper and I shot a 102. I had surgery earlier in the year and I am not playing up to my handicap but I am still not a 100 golfer. I would estimate that I hit atleast 25 shots from the legendary "native grass". What a tough place to play in. I would recommend you playing up a tee box or two the first time you play this course. The course has fairway, no rough, and plenty of native grass to grab your club like a pervert in a strip club. The layout of this course is A++ and my only complaint was that the fairways are a little bumpy. I had a few shots in the fairway (and I truly mean a few) with bad lies due to the bumps in them. I'm not sure how old this course is but it might be because it is so young. Other than that the course is in awesome shape. I would recommend this course to skill levels from average to expert golfers looking for a good challenge. Hit em straight guys and girls and enjoy the game.

This is a beautifully laid out course that is very unique in comparison to other courses in the area. At first glance, the layout out is very open but BEWARE of the "native grass" as it will eat your score up. This secondary rough area is like a minefield of crab grass. Miss a fairway and pay for it out here. Fast greens and deep bunkers also make for a challenge. The only downside to this course at this stage of the year is that there are a few fairways with very thin grass which sometimes does not reward your great shots. You will however really enjoy a round at Long Shadow all in all.

Played this course March 20th. I love this course because of the length. Playing from the tips is really a challenge. The fairways are still a little thin (not much grass), but the greens are in great shape. Very fast and most of them have a lot of undulation. Don't hit in the rough or you may lose your ball like I did. This is still a pretty new course that will continue to get better over time. I like it now and I'm sure I'll love it this summer.
