Played on 7-23, my foursome had a great round. Second time I have played this course this summer, got a good rate on LMTT. Was disappointed with a few things this 2nd time around- ball washers were BONE dry, water jugs could have been refreshed. And I guess the marshall (we only saw this guy this one time all day) waited for us to tell us that no personal coolers were allowed, after we had already played 8 holes. That was total news to me, and I have played this course a few times and never had a problem. I understand those rules, but they need to be posted and I have never seen one sign (unlike some other courses). So we put our coolers up at the turn, and saw the girl cart on #1 (we began on #10) ONCE for the rest of the round. Good thing we used our bag coolers, or that would have really put a damper on the round. Otherwise, the other 3 in my group had never played this course but really liked it. Boxes and fairways were in good shape, and the greens rolled good eventhough they had been sanded recently. I still must say this is a really good course to play, and the price is right on LMTT.

Played on 7/23 and course was in great condition. Other than the small amount of top dressing/sand on the greens and a few fairways being punched for aeration course was well prepared. Liked seeing the two distinct cuts of rough and the greens putted true even with top dressing sand present. Although somewhat tight layout there is ample room for a slightly mishit shot and in our foursome they were ample.
Staff was friendly and the course not overcrowded. Played round in less than 4 hours which in or around Atlanta is a bonus. Will be back soon.

What's this?
The first I played this course 10 years ago, it ate my lunch. I played it last weekend and the same thing happened. Here is the deal.

Somewhat tight layout with narrow undulating fairways and thick, long rough. Therefore, even if you hit the fairway, it can bounce off a mound an put you in the rough. Most greens are very small (and getting smaller all the time due to not mowing all the way to the collar) and most are very undulating. The green complexes themselves were smaller than normal with extremely deep bunkers, very tall mounds, deep depressions, and thick turf. Some of the greens varying quite a bit in speed and all were slower that the practice putting green.

If you don't have a GPS, forget about finding yardages. No hole layouts on score cards or tombstones. If you play this course for the first time, you'll have no clue.

We played on Saturday morning and hardly anyone was on the course. We played as a twosome and some some reason the Marshall kept trying to speed us up. The only time we saw the group behind us was when they were on the tee on a Par 5 when we were putting out on the green. He hounded us the entire round when we were not even within 15 minutes of holding up the group behind us. For heavens sake, in 35 years I have never played a two some that held up a foursome. The Marshall got so annoying that I had to tell him off. Maybe, if they marked the course and offered a yardage book it would speed up play.

Unless you play this course all the time, hit extremely precise iron shots, and have a GPS unit, be prepared to have an avalanche of stokes. Even with relatively good shot making that day, my scorecard looked like a phone book.

What's this?

hello. played "indian creek" on saturday, 18 july 2009. the course is in GREAT overall shape!

fairways are gorgeous with three different cuts of grass. the grass is full, lush. rock hard in some places and baby soft in others. lots of elevation changes and lots of uneven stances.

greens are of average speed and a little slow in some spots. very very receptive thou. looks like they water them well and keep the air circulating. remember to repair your ball marks!!! greens aren't too tricky BUT there is a lot of variation.

bunkers are a little spotty (inconsistent) but acceptable and don't detract from a very fun round.

the par three's are a blast! love hitting over the water. hole #15 is stunning!!!

it IS a very very pretty course. take the time to look around a bit.

tee boxes could use a little work on some holes BUT it looks like the groundskeeper is on it.

great practice facilities and FREE range balls. i appreciate the free tees too. thanks guys.

OVERALL: lots of trees and chiseled fairways BUT not too terribly narrow fairways. if you are a 13-20 handicapper, you will still enjoy this course from the blue tees.

i can see a 5-10 handicapper enjoying the black tees, thou the course MIGHT not give them enough challenge.

definitely a great value and worth the drive.

cheers,
kyle

Played this course on 6-25-09. Hadn't played it in about 2 years. Got a great rate on LMTT. Overall, the course is in really good shape. Some fairways were spotty and the greens had some hops, but I still enjoyed the round. Cart girl was seen often. My buddy and I didn't see another golfer on our round, except for the single we let play quickly thru, and really enjoyed the course. I will go back when I get another unbeatable rate.

I played this course on 6-9-09 for the first time in a couple of years. It is challenging, but, I played it well for a 10 handicap. My partner on the other hand, couldn't find a fairway. We will be going back today 6-12-09 to play it again.

Indian Creek is a very well kept course with hidden hazards throughoutmost of the holes. It is not a very hard course, however it does pose a challenge to a golfer of my ability (Which isn't saying too much: Handicap around 20). However, I did think enough of the course to go back the very next day, due in part to a red flag special at the last minute. I will be recommending this course to anyone I play with.

Nice golf couse. The service was good and everyone was really nice. Very nice clubhouse, range, and practice greens to get you started. The course is rather tight and forces you to hit 3 wood or a long iron off many tees. Course is well maintained and in great shape. One downfall when playing it the first time is that there are no pictures of the holes on the score card or on the tee box to show you the lay of the hole. The starter was really nice and gave us the tips we needed to know such as streams and well placed water hazards that are blind of a few par 5's. Overall, a nice course that is fun to play. Decent value and will play again.

What's this?
Short and to the point:

Service: Everything was acceptable with no noticeable areas that need improvement.

Overall condition: Fairways are fantastic. Tee boxes need minor attention on the failing grass. Greens are filled out but could stand to be slightly faster(I know this is a preference thing tho). I have a GPS tool, so yardage isn't a big thing to me. But the course could use a lot more markers.

Clubhouse/Amenities: Nice bar/eats. Nice proshop(no PGA store by any means...but really, what course is?). Limitless range balls are included in every round and they have a nice chipping/putting green.

Course Layout: I think Indian Creek is underrated in this regard. From the tips there are a lot of risk/reward holes. Lots of doglegs and low limbs that can create headache or inspire awe, depending on how you play it. Par 3's are pretty to look at and fun to play. Par 5's have the most to gain by being aggressive(most to lose, sans hole #5).
.....
Hole #5 belongs on a completely different course. It stands far above the rest of the holes when it comes to difficulty. But it's a great challenge and it's fun if you're not pulling your hair out.

Greens condition: As stated before, they could be a bit fast over all. But they are filled-out with no patches. Balls check up nicely if you play it that way.

Value: Overall, I think the course is a good value. But it also is quite expensive for the area on weekend mornings. I suggest twilight rates.

I will definitely return to Indian Creek to play more!

THE GOOD- Greens are in great shape. I love the layout, lots of scenic holes. A good mix of long and short holes. Fairways are looking real nice. The girls in the Snack bar (really more of a full service bar) are wonderfull.

THE BAD- A few of the tee boxes were too fuzzy. Some of the male staff could take personality lessons from the Snack Girls. Not rude but did not make you feel very welcomed.

THE UGLY- Yardage markers are scarce. It was a guessing game out there. Please print some yardage on the sprinkler head or least some blue whites and reds in the fairways.
I WILL BE BACK

We had a threesome on Saturday, March 11th. Our group was first off, at 8:02. Conditions were sloppy due to heavy rains the previous day, and play was "cart path only". We still finished in 3 hours, 40 minutes.

The mucky fairways aside, we enjoyed the layout. There are a lot of doglegs, mostly to the right, and none of them were extreme or "tricked up". The greens are in nice condition, although they putted a little slow. They are fairly undulating, and would pose real issues if they were very fast.

The par 3's are of pretty good length and demand a fairly well struck shot to hit the greens. They are well presented, picturesque holes. For normal length players, the par 5's are 3-shotters with accuracy more important than length. As it should be.

The worst part from my perspective is that the tees were mostly uneven, making it difficult to have a level lie. But, you've got 2 club-lengths, so you can find an acceptable, if not totally level place to stick your tee.

For the LMTT price we paid, this is a good value. We each paid about $33 less than their Masters Weekend special rate!! We're going to try it again when it dries out.

Course overall in good shape. Greens havent recovered from recent aeration, should be good soon though. Fairways still dormant, yardage could be marked better, yardages on sprinkler heads need to be remarked, overall OK deal through LMTT. Wouldnt pay full price right now though.

The layout of the course was pretty nice, but the greens were not in very good shape. They had yet to recover from their most recent aeration and there were many spots where there damage caused by something other than aeration. Also, the course was poorly marked. The distances were written on the sprinkler heads, but in most cases the writing had faded away, thus leaving one guessing at what it was once written. Also, when going from the second hole to the third hole, we ended up on the sixth. This is because there is only a tiny marking on the concrete path that indicates which way to go, and there is no yard arm at the tee. It wasn't until after we had hit our tee shots that we determined we were on the wrong hole. By the time we discovered our mistake, we had been passed by a slower group on whom we then had to wait. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and free range balls are always appreciated. A few improvements would move this course from a two-star to 3.5.

I played there on Sep. 19 2008.
It was my first time there, and there was a little tournament event. Thus, it was very clowded, but the marshall was very nice to guide us to the back nine to play, so it took just three hours to play.
Course was interesting, but they are not discernable excepts several waterly holes. Alos, they provided free range balls, so we can practice before the game which is very helpful.
Considering all of them, I will plan to paly there again.
Thank you.

Greens are making a comeback after aeration. They are already rolling true, but it's still impossible to get the ball to spin. This was my first time here and I didn't know what to expect. I was rather impressed. The layout makes you think but quite fun to play and very fair. The bermuda rough was thick so keep it on the short stuff. Distance rarely is an advantage over being on the fairway here. Overall, it's an above average course at a steal of a deal. I will definitely be back soon.

Played this course on Sept. 6. The greens had just been aerated, which was the major drawback on the day. The service in the clubhouse was fantastic, and the marshal was very helpful. some of the sprinklers were on while we were playing, which was awkward. On the plus side, there was almost nobody on the course, so we could take our time.

Course layout was good, I would play here again.

Played Sept 3rd. When booking the tee time it said the greens were to be aerated Sept 5th. When we got there we had to play the front nine which was aerated and sanded on Sept 2nd twice as they were in the process of aerating and sanding the back nine. There was so much sand on the greens some were hardly puttable. Not a very good value for the 39 dollars. They should have given us a reduced rate on a future round but all we got was a sorry.

Played on Friday-8/15. They had some kind of member tournament just starting when I arrived so they let me jump ahead a few holes to start.Found course in overall very playable condition. Tee boxes and fairways in good condition and greens in puttable condition except for a few bad spots on a few greens. Water in play on maybe 5 holes but a lot of ditches and junk in play on many holes-like # 10 in which you probably need to lay up with a 3 wood so you won't reach a ditch-which you can't see-crossing the fairway. And maybe need better signage to tell you which way to go going from the 5 to the 6. Maybe 4 water coolers on course. Think it is worth a play.

I played the course on Wednesday for the first time, and I was very impressed. Got a LMTT for $18! The staff was nice, and the food in the grill was awesome. Try the taco salad, or the hot dog with onions.

This course is very well spread out over a lot of land, and you venture off quite a ways from the clubhouse as you start to play. This is not a course that I would advise trying to walk. You would not make it past nine holes.

The tee boxes were nice, the fairways were nicely manicured, and the greens were immaculate. I was surprised at how well they held long approach shots even though it was quite hot, and they were very firm.

This is a tough course, but it is very fair. I must give it props by saying that good shots are very well rewarded. On bad shots, you are able to recover if you have a decent scramble game and don't get frustrated easily.

The layout seemed a little quirky to me at first because none of the fairways have even lies. There are lots of blind shots, so if you are playing for the first time, you need to drive ahead to see where the flag is. There are no tee box markers that let you know the contour of the hole. I did not see any yard markers either. You don't know if you are out 100 yards or 150 yards.

There are some collection areas(canyons)in some of the fairways that look harmless, but trust me, they will cost you 3 to 4 strokes easily. Not only are they deep, but they have thick grass, and rocks in them. Take an unplayable lie so you don't damage your clubs!

Do not get macho on this course. If you have the skills of a player that should be at the whites, by all means play the whites here. If you try to step back and play outside of your level by playing harder tess, you will balloon your score.

The course is very wide open in some spots, but there are severe penalties for missing badly. This course has one of the best overall selections of par threes that I have ever experienced.

Overall, I think this is a great course. I suggest that you play it now, because as it matures, it will only get harder, and more frustrating.

I can really see this course sponsoring some big time tournaments one day. I will definitely be back!

ITS BACK TO FORM!!!! I played Indian Creek on Wednesday July 30. After a rough summer with lack of rain and work on this course, it is finally back in Tip Top shape. The fairways were in great shape with the Bermuda sitting almost perfect and not too hard. The rough was punishing all day long sicne we played in the morning and the moisture was still on the ground, that thick rough was a beast to come out of but made the day quite challenging. The greens were about as close to perfect as I remember them being. Holding any shots very well and then rolling true and smooth on every hole. They weren't super fast nor slow. Just good average speed. The clubhouse and the service (as always) was top notch. The cart girl was running and we saw her about every 3 holes. There were a few fairways however that had soft wet spots down in the low lying areas but nothing that was detrimental to the course or that big of a deal, they were limited. Other than that I have no complaints on the conditions of the course and with free range balls and tees, this course is an absolute steal for the price. Great Job guys.

Well I played this course on Saturday 7/26. From the point of our arrival we were treated with 1st class attention. Someone collected our bags as soon as we drove up and parked our cart near the driving range. And the guy did it with the attitude of just providing you with good service and not even expecting a tip. (Heck, that inspired me to tip him even more.) Me and my group were greated warmly in the pro shop and the lady and the tall guy behind the counter were superb.

I have been playing this course since it first opened some years ago. I even saw the architect standing on the 10th tee talking to the old owner on opening day. Back then they had over-seeded the fairways with rye grass so that the course would look good because the weather wasn't exactly spring temps. yet. That idea would prove costly because it didn't give the bermuda sod a chance to develop a solid root system. So due to that the fairways would historically be found to be extremely hard and sometimes bare. Hardpan lies in a fairway were very common place during this era.

But that was then. Now that the course is under new ownership and a new golf pro the layout is even more fantastic than before! The course conditions are better than I've seen it since the grand opening!

The greens roll nice and steady at a 8-10 on the stimp meter. The so-called bare spots are a thing of the past. The ball sits up nicely for you in the fairways and the bunkers were all in good condition to me. (I don't know what the other guy was talking about in a previous post. All the bunkers I saw had that good soft white powdery sand. Sometimes they were wet but sometimes they were dry. The course had rain the previous day that I played so I thought that the sandtraps were still in great shape with all things considered.)

The teeth on this course are located on the well-sloped tee boxes. Club selection on the tee boxes will determine if you shoot in the 70's, 80's or out of space!

Also, it would help you for having knowledge of the contours of the greens. Since I'm familiar with the greens I know where to place my approach shots on most of the greens. But my only problem on this day was not staying patient off the tee on the front side. I missed 3-4 fairways in a bad way and I was severly punished for it. Had I not hit those errant tee shots I kinda felt that I would have scored at least about 5-8 strokes better. I should have shot a 76-79 instead of penalty bleeding score of an 84.

But hey, I never said that this course was a push over! This is not a grip and rip kind of course. Not at all! This is a very challenging golf course. You have to use controlled agression, strategic ball placement off the tee, & hit precission like approach shots. The greens will give up some birdies out there and maybe some eagles on a few of the par 5's that can be reached in two. I"ll let you discover which ones I'm speaking of. :)

My only problem with this course is that after you finish playing it makes you want to play it again and again. As a Canongate member, trust me...I don't say that too often about many golf courses. (It really takes a lot to impress me.) Not even the ones that I can play on with my membership. But maybe this is the course that I should consider joining. Only time will tell if this is the course for me. Now that I'm thinking about it...I plan to go play this afternoon.

By the way, Brian (the golf pro) and his staff were very attentive to me & my group. Our concerns were dealt with immediate speed. When golfers are given 1st class treatment like that.... we will almost always want to come back again, and again, and again!

I hope that they keep up all the good work there!

Oh, yeah...stay out of the rough!

Played course for the 1st time on 7/22. First impression was a great one, a staff member met me in the parking lot, and took my bag to the range. Gave me some insight on the course. Checked in with no problem, staff inside was excellent. Started off on the back side, and found #10 to be a beast of a par 5. As mentioned before, you really have no idea where to hit the ball, I have a GPS, which helped a bunch. There are some holes that are blind shots, and having never played, you'd be in trouble. And there is no way you can come out here and try to muscle this course. No bombing away out there, I hit lots of 4 irons off the tee, par four, par five, didn't matter, you have to put the ball in play out here. Some may call the layout kinda tricked up playing it for the first time. Lovely course, didn't mind the guessing games off the tee, it was my first time out, and I was enjoying the day. We didn't see a cart girl at all. The food at the grill was excellent, and the marshall was great. Didn't play well, but enjoyed the scenery of the course, and would highly recommend to anyone to play. Greens were great, bunkers need work, and again, can't say enough about the service at this place, 1st class all the way, from the grille, to the marshall, to the guys in the pro shop, great all around day at the course

I played on 7/21. This is the first time I've played this track.

The condition is good and the holes are very attractive. Every single hole is tree lined. Any tee shot that hits the rough on the fly is gone.

Even from the back tees this course is playing very short. It has lots of doglegs and you don't have to hit it very far before you run out of fairway. Driver is my best club, but looking back I would only hit it about 4-5 times if I played it again. On some holes on the front a 3-wood was too much club given the tight fairways and drop-off shouldered rough.

This is not my kind of golf course but I could see how it would be a favorite for some players.
This once-a-week seasonal player needs a bit more room.

What's this?
Played this course on 7/18 using an LMTT special. what a deal. This course is in great shape, not hurt by the drought at all. the fairways were green and held the ball up like a tee. the rough was thick and lush. the greens were in great shape and held the ball well.

What's this?
Played this course in morning on 7/11. Due I presume to the heavy rains the last couple days it was cartpath only, the fairways drained well mostly but were wet so no roll and the greens held tight similarly. I thought the fairways and greens were in really nice shape. Played 18 in under 4 hrs easy. There are quite a few holes with small creeks horizontally across fairways and some holes with "plateau" fairways steep dropoff to rough so could benefit from a coursebook or better signage at the tees, but really not a big deal. The 200/150/100 is signified on the cart path, and directions to the next hole is painted on the path too if you look closely for it. Staff was friendly. Like prior post says, this course has something for everyone. I definitely recommend you check it out if you haven't already done so.
