This is my all time favorite (not up North) course in southeastern MI. It makes me feel like I am up north. 27 holes makes the paly even better. Whenever I get a chance, for 9 or 18, it is my favorite place to play. Enjoy the view, hills, and wild life.

Played this course again & was very disappointed in the condition of the greens & the sand traps were horrible. As a matter of fact, it was more like a gravel trap. I mentioned this to the staff person after over a long five hour round & was told that this was a maintainence issue & I proceeded to tell this person that I really was looking forward to playing here again, but if they were not going to put some new sand into the bunkers, I would not be returning. The response was like; okay then! You would think that w/the Michigan economy being as depressed as it is that golf courses would welcome your attendance & your money. I will not be going back & this is too bad because I really do like the course layout! One other complaint is there are no beverage carts!!! The Majestic is far superior so far this year!

When you play Shepherd's Hollow you truly feel like you are up north. Very few houses, noise, traffic etc. The layout is stunning. One of, if not the best public course in the Metro Detroit area. Elevations, trees galore, lush fairways and white sand (there's plenty of it). Most of the holes on this course require very accurate approach shots. Get on the wrong side of the hole and expect to three putt (or worse). It's expensive but the golf, clubhouse and service is fantastic. As they say, "you get what you pay for"

I played Shepherd's Hollow on Sept 18th. This has to be the best public course in SE Michigan. The tee boxes were like a carpet. The lush green grass, the beautiful white sand with the holes cut through pines and hardwoods creates a wonderful business. That's before the golf begins.
The undulated greens will test your putting abilities. If you end up in one of those deep fairway bunkers, put your ego aside and play smart.
Service was wonderful and the restaurant is nice after golf.
Wow. What a track. This by far was the best course I played. A immaculate course that was nearly as good conditionwise as Oakland Hills (I played here during PGA Championship week).
The clubhouse is a great design, very remminicent of mansions in the south. A very good driving range is on hand.
I played 1-9 and 19-27. Both nines were cut through majestic pines yet the main features were the way the fairways undulated making you think twice before selecting what club to hit from the tee and approaches. The greens were very challenging, with their share of undulations. On this day there were alot of golfers out yet it seemed like you were playing at a private club. Paths between holes gave you a moment to regroup if you had a bad hole or celebrate if the last one was a good one.
Over all this was a very enjoyable course with rewarding and punishing holes. A very fair setup. Tees, fairways and greens were in great shape.
If you are near Clarkston you MUST play this course. You won't regret it.

This is probably one of the top courses is Oakland County. You want the feel of up-north golf without the drive, this is it. The course was in really good shape today. We had a 7:21 tee time and we ran into a couple holes that still weren't mowed or swept. The only problem we saw were the sandtraps. The sand was very hard for what you would expect here. Still, the views and the layout are simply awesome and definitely a must play if you havn't.

A little pricey, but what a tough course. My buddies and I played from the blue tees and what a mistake, very long and you hardly ever get a flat lie and talk about tough greens, if you're not on the right part of the green you might as well chalk up a 3 putt.Probably the toughest course I have ever played, if you are looking for a challenge this is the place.
Shep's was in awesome condition this weekend....we went out at about 1130 and saw one other group all day...the fairways and greens were in tip top shape...my only complaint is that there are no drink carts on the course....by the time we hit the turn we were parched and had been for quite a while...so if you're going to play here be sure to stock up on beers before you tee off.

My buddy discovered this course last year, and raved about it to me throughout this year. I finally played it this past weekend on my annual trip up to Michigan, and it totally surpassed my expectations. Not only was the course beautiful, the conditions (especially the greens) were superb for a public course. Pace was practically non-existent. When we made the turn and saw a couple of groups ahead of us at the 10th tee, the ranger swiftly allowed us to move to the 19th tee instead. Incredibly, on a perfectly sunny Saturday afternoon, we had no one hitting behind us.
The service was beyond stellar. I was offered a lift to the driving range by the bag drop girl because my playing partner had already taken our cart to it while I was enjoying a breakfast at the clubhouse (that was much better than usual clubhouse fare).
A course like this would easily cost more than $120 in the DC metro area. For $60, Shepherd's Hollow was an unreal bargain.

I wasn't sure what to think when I heard about this course. I had to find out for myself. I did not play all 27. However, the 18 I played was fantastic. I'm saying fantastic, not easy. It's easily one of the top 5 hardest tracks MI has to offer. But it is also beautiful and worth every penny. I'd play it every day if I could. My advice to newcomers to this course is keep your approach shots accurate. The yardages are VERY true, but they wont show you the undulation in the greens.
In my opinion, Shepherds' Hollow is the best public course in SE MI. I have played here several times and each visit I can't believe how beautiful this course is. Feels like you are playing up north. The layout is fantastic, with constant elevation changes, tiered greens, and majestic views. The course is always in great condition, and the facilities and staff are fantastic. You do pay for all this quality, but if you want to treat yourself to a great round, this is your track.
